Job Description

Summary Youll be responsible for the co-ordination of the rowing boat business at Flatford during the 2022 summer season. Front of house working will make up a large part of the role, with some office work. Youll be expected to work weekends and bank holidays and can expect to be on site approximately 4 days a week, 7.5 hours a day. Additional hours may be available at peak times. The Active Outdoor Co-ordinator role is part of the Visitor Welcome team, who focus on all aspectsof the visitor experience across the site. The role is new to Flatford and will lead on the safe and effective daily operation of the rowing boat business. Youll work with Active Outdoor Assistants and other property colleagues, while reporting to the SiteManager. What youll be doing Your role will be co-ordinating the daily operation of the rowing boat business. Youll lead on the rota, ensuring the role is safely staffed at all times; customer service delivery, ensuring administration and cash handling isundertaken in a secure way; manage rowing boat maintenance; help promote the boats and outdoor experience; help with the site duty manager rota; develop opportunities away from the rowing boats to improve the customer experience at Flatford and develop partnershipopportunities with other river and countryside users. In addition, youll prepare the rowing boats for use; welcome visitors and undertake key health and safety checks; take payment and use the booking system; help visitors start their rowing boat trip; welcome visitors back and close the business at the endof the day. The role will require you to climb in and out of rowing boats, row the boats when necessary and work close to water. An ability to swim would be advantageous, although youll be required to wear a life jacket when close to the water. Youll alsohelp the Welcome Team across the site when necessary. Who were looking for Youll need to have the following experience:

  • Some practical experience in developing and running an outdoor activity, ideally connected with water.
  • A thorough understanding of relevant health and safety and applying this health and safety in a crowded and changing outdoor setting.
  • Good people skills with experience in building and maintaining strong relationships
  • A focus on delivering brilliant customer service
  • A hands-on attitude with a willingness to work front of house most of the time and take on physical tasks. Given the nature of the role, relevant experience could include: small water craft operation, cash handling, customer service, health and safety,cleaning, presentation and simple maintenance.
  • Written and verbal communications skills and IT literate with ability to use social and digital media to promote the business.
  • A basic understanding of the heritage and conservation sector and the work of the National Trust.
