Job Description

Summary We are now recruiting for an assistant ranger who can commit to working regular weekend evenings for a seven-month period from 26th March to the 29th of October 2023. Working hours will be from 16.00 to 20.30 Saturday to Sunday.As the evening ranger you will be the eyes and ears of Lyme up until the estate closes at 8pm. You will have fantastic people skills and be able to work independently to deliver a variety of maintenance and security tasks. Lone working is a crucial part ofthis role so your ability to work efficiently and manage your own workload is essential. A full clean driving license is also required.. Rangers have been a part of the National Trust since the beginning, our place in the organisations future means that we need to think long term about how we look after our special places. As part of the wider Ranger team, we need you to think about our impacton the environment, and find better ways to do things. What its like to work here This Peak District mansion is a popular filming location and was made famous as Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. High above Manchester, it is a beautiful and special place and two thirds of our visitors come to enjoy the outdoors here.Lyme boasts 1,400 acres of beautiful parkland and rugged moorland, 2 herds of wild red deer, a very busy programme of events, art and exhibitions. Lyme also has extensive gardens that range from the Italianate Dutch Garden to the Vicary Gibbs tree garden,six catering outlets and two shops. Excellent local transport links means youre able to travel here by public transport or car. Youll also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring specialplaces like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. Who were looking for To deliver this role successfully, youll need to:

  • Demonstrate a willingness to work alongside volunteers and be able to support them to perform at their best
  • Have a commitment to customer service standards and experience of its delivery
  • Demonstrate a passion for nature and the outdoors
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Have good people skills enabling strong relationships externally and internally, to be built and maintained
And youll need to demonstrate the following experience on your CV;
  • Practical experience in land, conservation and access management, to level 2 (or equivalent level of vocational experience)
  • Some experience of delivering engagement activities that help build or strengthen visitors connections with nature and the outdoors
  • Familiarity with machinery/equipment and practical certificates as required by the property
