Job Description

The Opportunity | Senior Electronics EngineerReporting to the Electronics Engineering Supervisor, the successful Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of new product introduction from initial concept through to release to production and beyond. This includes interpreting customer requirements,defining specifications and developing robust electronic design solutions to meet these requirements on time and to budget.The successful candidate will possess a sound understanding of electronic design from concept through to manufacturing. You will design, prototype, assemble and test electronic circuits; this includes the design of complex solutions using embedded microcontrollers,hall effect sensing and inductive and optoelectronic systems.An understanding of PWM and CAN bus electronics systems related to off-road vehicles would be an advantage, in particular, understanding of the software protocols such as J1939, CANopen etc.You should be able to analyze electronics circuitry from customer drawings to ensure compatibility with Penny and Giles products.You will utilise your technical knowledge and be part of a highly motivated integrated engineering team containing Mechanical, Electronic, Software and Test Equipment Engineers, fully supporting Penny and Giles products.You will be commercially aware and have the ability to communicate effectively, a confident personality and a strong desire to succeed.Your Challenge:

  • Takes ownership and responsibility for delivering all associated aspects of the project to agreed timescales.
  • Identification of project risk and implementation of mitigation or contingency activity as appropriate.
  • Interfacing with customers, internal and external. As the product expert, you will be expected to provide technical support and guidance where required.
  • Demonstrate suitability of proposed design solutions through the use of appropriate engineering tools and practices eg Design Failure Mode Analysis of electronic designs.
  • Define and conduct product testing as appropriate.
  • Creation and maintenance of the project design dossier.
  • Ensure that the acquisition, development and implementation of design complies with appropriate standards and methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance to applicable test standards i.e. EMC, ESD, Transients etc
Your Expertise:
  • BEng or BSc in Electronic Engineering or equivalent related experience. Candidates with HND or HNC with experience of electro-mechanical design are also invited to apply for the position.
  • Highly experinced working within an electro-mechanical design environment.
  • Capable of producing electronic designs using CAD tools; preferred design packages being Altium or Proteus
  • Knowledge of electronic engineering and the selection and application of complex integrated circuits, hall-effect sensing technologies and inductive and optoelectronic systems.
  • Experience of electronics design using embedded solutions (PIC, AVR, STM32 etc)
  • Computer literacy with experience in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Good verbal, written and diagrammatic communication
  • Full UK driving license.
Desirable:
  • Experience with PWM and CAN Bus electronics systems related to off-road vehicles.
  • Experience of LabView software.
  • Advanced practical abilities in areas of PCB prototyping, SMD assembly and rework etc..
  • Ability to use Six Sigma development tools and analyse product performance.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the off-highway vehicle market eg PPAP etc..
  • Familiarity with the requirements of EN13849-1 PLD Machinery Directive or SIL2.
  • A sound understanding of DFM/DFA techniques.
  • Experience in the use of root cause analysis tools eg. 8D.
