Job Description

Seashell Trust is a national charity supporting children and young adults with complex communication, physical disabilities and multisensory impairments from across the UK.We provide specialist care and education, for children and young adults from 2-25 years.Judged Ofsted Outstanding’ 2016/2017 for the third consecutive time and Advanced Autism Accreditation award 2020, Royal School Manchester is recruiting for an inspirational and resilient Curriculum Lead/Senior Teacher who is motivated by overcoming barriers to provide aspirational and nurturing education for all our students. This post will report directly to the Head of the School and is a management position as part of our School Leadership Team.Role SummaryWe wish to appoint a dynamic and inspirational school leader to shape the ongoing success of our curriculum development, policy and provision within the school. The successful applicant will undertake the duties of a Senior Teacher and Curriculum Lead under the reasonable direction of the Head of School.As a result of the promotion of the current post holder to the headship, this is an exciting opportunity to join a forward thinking, dynamic and hardworking team.The successful leader will be responsible for the development of the curriculum, management of teaching staff and HLTA and ensuring that an outstanding level of education is maintained across the school. You will lead on school developments according to the school development plan and annual schedule.The students follow an individual and functional timetable including literacy, numeracy, creative arts, vocational, leisure, life skills, physical development and personal and social skills. Timetables and curriculum learning is developed around students’ interests and needs, allowing programmes to be motivating and provide learning platforms that result in exceptional progress.The staff work with a range of highly skilled professionals including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Assistive Technologists and ASC specialists in delivering individual education programmes. They also work in conjunction with our residential colleagues and parents ensuring a consistent approach.This is an excellent opportunity for an inspirational leader with a proven track record of motivated and inspiring others to join our fantastic team and really make a difference!RequirementsEducation and Training:

  • Teaching Degree or Post Graduate Diploma (Qualified Teacher Status QTS)
  • Additional MQ or Master’s degree in Autism, MSI, VI or HI
  • Skills and Knowledge:
  • Previous experience of leading school developments within a school that teaches students who have sensory impairment, autism and/or communication difficulties and severe/complex learning difficulties, and some challenging behaviour
  • Knowledge of developing a SEN curriculum
  • Knowledge of planning and delivering personalised learning programmes and providing training to inspire and motivate others.
  • Knowledge of SEND assessment and the skills to identify and apply relevant assessments.
  • Experience of positive behaviour support and behaviour management strategies
  • Self-motivated and confident with an ability to motivate and empower others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. With a strong ability to manage effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team and students
  • Recent legislation and national developments in SEND including the new OFSTED framework
  • A resilient and resourceful leader who has the skills to empower others.
  • Efficient organisational / time management skills and the ability to support others in keeping to the school development plan and annual schedule while being reflective and working co-productively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in chairing meetings and working with parents and other professionals.
