Job Description

FINANCIAL CONTROLLERBRENTFORDHIGHLY COMPETITIVE SALARY DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCEOur client is looking for a Financial Controller for their well-established private sector construction services company based in Brentford, Middlesex.Job PurposeThis role will create the opportunity for an energetic shirt sleeves Accountant to have the chance to really seek to change and improve accounting operations and gain the management skills necessary to move to the next level within an exciting growth company.A great chance for an ambitious can-do person to really make a difference.The role of Financial Controller involves the following tasks.Duties & ResponsibilitiesTo lead and develop the Accounts Team in all aspects of pay/bill, credit control and accounting activities. Work with the part-time Finance Director on regulatory and financial reporting, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

  • Oversee and provide guidance on the monthly pay/bill processes ensuring timely payment of workers and invoicing of customers.
  • Run the monthly staff payroll and related HMRC PAYE reporting on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Manage all bank reconciliations.
  • Manage petty cash, credit card expenses and cash expenses.
  • Undertake the invoice discounter operation and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow for the Business ensuring adequate working capital facilities for the routine business operations.
  • Run month-end and support year-end close process.
  • Coordinate with the Auditors and part-time Finance Director on the preparation of statutory reporting.
  • Fixed Asset Accounting (including fleet of Business vehicles)
  • Run monthly management accounts on an accurate and timely basis.
  • Ad hoc reporting to part time Finance Director/Owners on special projects
  • Maintain Asset Register.
  • Run MTD VAT returns.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls including credit card management.
  • Constantly look to develop the accounting department systems, reporting and processes to reduce effort and automate processes.
In this role you will train and mentor, in a team focused environment, with a long-term approach to ensure that your team fulfil their potential.This role reports to the Owners of the business with a dotted line to the part time Finance Director.Candidate requirements
  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller.
  • 2+ years post qualification experience.
  • Educated to degree standard.
  • ACCA or CIMA qualified.
  • PC literate with good Excel skills.
  • Experience within the recruitment industry in pay/bill processes. Construction industry exposure would be ideal but not mandatory.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Preferably experience of Sage 50 Cloud accounting software.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
