Job Description

Economic Analyst who has a strong background in quantitative and qualitative research skills with the ability to gather data, compile information and manipulate large amounts of numerical data is required to join our team at The Food & DrinkFederation, based in Bloomsbury, London.SALARY: up to £25,000 per annumLOCATION: Bloomsbury, LondonJOB TYPE: Full-Time, 12 Month ContractOur OrganisationWere the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) - the voice of the UK food and drink industry: the largest manufacturing sector in the country. We also work in partnership with key players in the food supply chain to ensure our food is safe, affordable and nutritious.The Role - Economic AnalystThis is an exciting opportunity for a recent economics graduate to join the Industry Growth team at the Food and Drink Federation, the representative body of the UKs largest and most vibrant manufacturing sector. With various challenges and opportunitiesfacing the industry, from the COVID-19 economic recovery, the creation of a National Food Strategy, to adapting to new trade relationships, we are advertising an initial 12 month fixed-term role to support the Economic Policy Manager in raising the economicimportance of the sector.Your role as an Economic Analyst is crucial to FDFs credibility as an economic commentator, working with FDFs policy experts and media team, member companies, Government departments, the media and stakeholders to help communicate the industrys economicimportance and ensuring FDFs policy arguments are evidence-based and amplify the industrys strengths. As Economic Analyst you will:

  • Conduct quarterly business confidence surveys, working with FDFs Media and Membership teams to increase responses and provide briefing for media enquiries and press interviews. Keep annual industry, regional statistics and internal economic presentationsup to date.
  • Work closely with FDF colleagues, members and other relevant stakeholders to produce regular economic reports to support FDFs commercial agenda and raise the importance of the industry.
  • Monitor the latest official data releases and update data trackers (on prices, output, wages etc.), presenting the results to the Economic Policy Manager and Industry Growth team colleagues.
  • Inform wider UK business discussions on the state of trade by producing and using food and drink specific data. Work closely with FDFs Media team to highlight the performance of the industry through social media platforms.
  • Build and maintain links with key stakeholders relating to economic data including Defra, DIT, ONS, HMRC, HMT, BEIS, CBI, Make UK and other relevant bodies.
The TeamFDFs Industry Growth team is responsible for policy and market developments that impact UK food and drink manufacturers ability to invest, grow and do business. The team covers a range of economic issues including: trade and workforce implications of theUK leaving the European Union; skills and employment; exporting; and working with supply chains.RequirementsAs an Economic Analyst you will have the following qualifications, experience and skills.QualificationsA bachelors degree in economics or a related subject with a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and statistical/econometric methods.Skills/ Knowledge
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.
  • The ability to gather data, compile information as well as handle and manipulate large amounts of numerical data and present this analysis graphically and verbally.
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, robust work within project timescales.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Politically aware.
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of tasks and workload.
  • Willingness to learn and show initiative.
Desirable
  • Knowledge and interest in macroeconomics and familiarity with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Her Majestys Revenue and Customs (HMRC) datasets.
  • Experience of using STATA software.
  • Experience of using a document management system.
  • Interest in the food and drink industry.
