Job Description

Aviation Security Officer Birmingham Airport is the UK’s seventh largest with 30 airlines serving over 120 destinations direct and onwards to over 400. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic 13m customers a year flew in and out of BHX. Going forward we project growth to more than 18m customersa year by 2033 - by which time we will be connected to central London by HS2 trains in just 37 minutes and aim to have become a net zero carbon airport.Our purpose is: Proud of Every Journey. Summary of the role We’ve invested £40m in our new security area, packed with the latest technology to make the Security process simpler and speedier for all our passengers. It is our team of dedicated Aviation Security Officers who make the difference to the quality and safetyof travel of the customers at the airport and are trained and supported to carry out the role effectively. No two days will be the same, from carrying out patrols to responding to emergency incidents. Full training is provided on all core duties and responsibilities- we’re looking for team members with a can do attitude, who are great team players and offer exemplary customer service Duties and Responsibilities

  • Screen personnel via body searches and bag searches.
  • Undertake X-Ray screening duties using new 3D Screening technology
  • Control access into restricted areas of the Airport, carrying out security Identification and boarding card checks to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) standard.
  • Respond to and assisting with emergency situations such as aircraft emergencies, terminal evacuations, and security incidents.
  • Carry out patrol and escort duties, including special events as required.
  • Provide proactive communication to ensure all personnel are fully prepared for Security screening.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all passengers.
  • To be compliant with Aviation Security local operating procedures, working practices and protocols and airport bylaws.
  • Undertake training including computer Based Training, mandatory Security Training in compliance with company and CAA standards.
  • Meet compliance and throughput targets as stipulated by the DfT, CAA and the Security Management Team.
  • Achieve an acceptable level of competence which is continuously measured through relevant performance evaluation means.
Candidate Requirements
  • Full colour vision.
  • Ability work varying shift times with early starts (i.e. 0230am) and late finishes (i.e. midnight) all days of the week.
  • Ability to provide a 5 year checkable history of work/education; obtain and hold a satisfactory criminal record check and counter terrorism clearance and to have resided in the UK for the last 3 years.
  • Physical ability to undertaken mandatory duties of the role including body search, bag search and patrols - the role will require long periods of standing, bending, walking and manual handling.
  • Have excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a customer service based role and demonstrate exceptional customer service.
  • Be enthusiastic, and have a can do and pro-active attitude towards your work.
  • Work effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • Be able to remain calm and effective in challenging or difficult situations.
  • Working in accordance with policies, procedures, regulation and training.
