Job Title:Laboratory Assistant- PermanentLocation: BedfordshireSalary: £20k - £25k p/annumHours: Monday - Friday, days onlyPlanned start date: October 2023ReedScientific is representing an innovative Biotech company based in the Bedfordshire area. They are looking for a motivated Laboratory Assistantto join their team to take ownership of assisting teams across multiple functions by completing a varietyof laboratory support tasks. Theywill also develop core competencies in their manufacturing scale-up team. The Laboratory Assistantneeds to be flexible and needs to contribute practically in other areas as may be necessary.ResponsibilitiesThe Laboratory Assistantwill work within the lab on a daily basis and willcontribute to the overall success of the Operations and technical teams by executing a variety of laboratory processes such as:

Weighing and preparing chemicals for polymerisation, carrying out polymerisation reactions, filtration and concentration of polymer product at laboratory scale
Basic testing of samples for quality characterisation. e.g. QC testing
Aliquoting of products into vials and containers, and preparing for final sale
Preventative maintenance, cleaning & documentation of assigned laboratory instruments
Regularly check chemicals and reagent expiry dates and arrange disposal of any out-of-date material via the specified waste disposal route
Maintain and coordinate laboratory consumable inventories
Laboratory housekeeping in line with company 5S practices

The Laboratory Assistantwill be required to interact with internal andexternal stakeholders, inboth written and verbal communication, building good relationships.They should be receptive to working in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment that demands the team frequently adapt or create new methods and processes.The Laboratory Assistantshould be champions of laboratory safety and laboratory best practice and needs to be show compliance to the company’s Quality Management System.About youEssential:

A level in one or more of the following: Maths, Combined Science, Chemistry, Biology, Physics or English with an Interest in Science.
Fresh / Exceptional candidates with no industrial laboratory experience can be considered.
Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety instructions.
Ability to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
Proficient in Microsoft software packages (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook etc.).

Desirable:

2-5 years of experience working in an industrial laboratory, e.g. food, pharmaceutical, chemical, analytical, under a certified Quality Management System, e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 13485 or similar.
