Job Description

Senior Aerodynamics Engineer - BedfordshireOn behalf of an established aerospace and aerodynamics research establishment in Bedfordshire, we are seeking an experienced Senior Aerodynamics Engineer who potentially has wind tunnel testing experience, or a background in aerodynamics and wishes to beat the cutting edge of research for aeroplane and aerospace development.Working amongst an existing and large multi-disciplinary team of engineers & scientists at a leading aerospace research establishment with one of the largest transonic wind tunnels in the world, this facility has several test facilities including a high-performancecomputing cluster but most of the work centres are around the large transonic wind tunnel.The Senior Aerodynamics Engineer will be working on advanced research and development projects to meet the demands and challenges of delivering highly accurate transonic wind tunnel testing posed by the advanced technologies being developed by clients suchas Boeing, Airbus, BAE Systems, Saab, Bombardier and Lockheed Martin, to mention but a few. Research for Concorde was done at this establishment.The role comes with a highly competitive salary plus benefits, and your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Provide proficient technical input and experienced support and guidance within the Project Team.
  • Be a key contact for customers to enable the delivery of projects to the satisfaction of the customer to the required quality standards within time and cost constraints.
  • Deal with client requests as appropriate, participate in the preparation of technical bids and oversee aerodynamic, mechanical, computing and programme requirements for wind tunnel and other tests.
  • Take senior responsibility for data quality and timely provision of results and/or reports to a global client base.
  • Represent the company’s interests in the UK and overseas at conferences or client meetings as appropriate.
  • Conduct analysis and interpretation of aerodynamic datasets and support other experimental and numerical tasks relevant to the business to produce written technical reports to accompany analysis and development activities.
  • Be proactive in the on-going development of innovative processes and capabilities at the company.
  • Actively coach others to improve the team’s knowledge and capabilities
To support this role, you should have the following skills & experience:
  • Where possible, have a passion for aircraft and aerospace.
  • Ideally hold a Masters or equivalent level degree in an aerospace related discipline with ideally 5 years minimum industrial or academic work experience.
  • Experience of wind tunnel testing wherever possible
  • Prior knowledge and experience of advanced testing techniques would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Aerodynamics from a relevant field. Knowledge of transonic aerodynamics would be highly regarded.
  • Broad understanding within the engineering discipline, and good awareness of wider domains and integration issues.
  • Ability and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Willingness to engage with both internal and external parties.
  • Ability to see projects through to completion.
  • Exhibit confidence to question the status quo and to strive for improvement
  • Team leadership & mentoring experience.
