Job Description

Our Client is one of the UK’s leading pioneers in the race to develop and manufacture the latest Battery technology for industry, with an initial primary focus on supporting our ever growing Automotive manufacturing sector (but not exclusively!), ensuringthat there will be a brighter and greener future for us all.Working from state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the West Midlands, it is our pleasure to now be collaborating with our Client to help develop, build and nurture their team with only the very best talent!As part of this growth, we are now actively seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer who ideally understands Battery technologies on a permanent basis. This position offers a negotiable (albeit based on relevant experience) basic salary, together with a fullcomprehensive benefits package to include discount car lease scheme. Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will work alongside a small but growing team of experienced Engineers in new product development and industrialisation of batteries and battery cells.Your Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanical engineering design of battery cells.
  • Review and/or creation of engineering drawings to BS/ISO8888 and coordinate the cross-departmental review.
  • Use departmental processes and procedures to manage the release and change of technical documentation and data.
  • Mathematical calculations (hand and software-based).
  • Creation of data sheets, product specifications and define technical processes.
  • Design for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA) evaluations, for battery cells, modules and packs.
  • Occasionally review and/or conduct basic simulations (thermal, structural, modal, CFD).
  • Leading and supporting design reviews with other Stakeholders.
  • Creation of product structuring, part numbering and BOMs.
  • Support product validation and testing and the creation of engineering reports.
  • Support the creation of DFMEAs and PFMEAs by providing technical input.
  • Review manufacturing and test data to support re-design or issue resolution activity.
  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing teams to ensure product design specification is achieved.
  • Work with the Procurement department and external suppliers to evaluate new technologies in cell components, materials and manufacturing methods as well as any outsourcing activity in realising in-house designs.
  • Lead and deliver work packages within customer projects as an when required.
  • Write technical reports covering the activities listed above when required, using available literature and data, either for internal company use or for Customers.
  • Present at design review meetings and design gates to various audiences such as the customer, departmental peers, technical specialists, Heads of Department and Senior Executive team.
Qualifications & Experience ideally required:
  • Should ideally be qualified with a Mechanical Engineering Degree at Masters Level (MSc, MEng or equivalent) with a minimum 2:1 award, although equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Should be an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with ideally first-hand experience working on battery cells, modules or packs or similar.
  • Demonstrated strong fundamental knowledge of engineering materials and first principles such as heat transfer, thermodynamics and stress analysis is required.
  • You should have a knowledge of engineering standards, BS/ISO8888, ISO9001.
  • You should have a working knowledge of 3D CAD systems (PTC Creo preferred, though training will be provided).
  • Likewise, you should have a working knowledge of PLM systems (PTC Windchill preferred, though training will be provided).
  • You will be competent at performing engineering hand-calculations.
  • First-hand experience of working with/alongside manufacturing operations in a continuous process of automated assembly environment is required.
