Job Description

Our Client is one of the UK’s leading pioneers in the race to develop and manufacture the latest Battery technology for industry, with an initial primary focus on supporting our ever growing Automotive manufacturing sector (but not exclusively!), ensuringthat there will be a brighter and greener future for us all.Working from state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the West Midlands, it is our pleasure to now be partnering our Client to help develop, build and nurture their team with only the very best talent!As part of this growth, we are now actively seeking an experienced Die/Tooling Engineer on a permanent basis.In this role, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and maintenance of precision dies used in the manufacturing process of Batteries. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the efficiency, quality, and safety of our Clients Battery productionline.On offer to the successful candidate is a negotiable (albeit dependent on relevant experience) basic salary, together with a full flexible benefits package.Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Create detailed tooling designs, considering factors such as material characteristics, tolerances, and production techniques, across the whole of business.
  • Conduct thorough feasibility analyses on die designs to assess manufacturability, efficiency, and potential challenges (project & product design).
  • Supervise the fabrication and assembly of dies, coordinating with the wider team to ensure precision and accuracy (commissioning/buy-off of tooling).
  • To assist and guide/train during breakdowns / downtime / Preventive maintenance and maintain consistent production output.
  • Monitor production processes closely, identifying issues related to die performance, tool wear, or other factors affecting product quality and production speed, assist in breakdowns.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with tooling or production equipment, implementing corrective actions promptly.
  • Conduct testing and validation of tool performance, analysing data to make informed decisions for process improvement.
  • Create a preventive maintenance schedule for tooling.
  • Liaise with other departments from Product and Manufacturing Engineering / Operations to adhere to customer requirements.
  • Be able to operate in tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in tool engineering, manufacturing technologies, and battery materials to propose innovative solutions and process enhancements.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, promoting a culture of safety within the team and the production environment.
Qualifications & Experience ideally required:
  • Should ideally have a Degree or similar qualification, but plenty of proven experience in Tooling/Mechanical Engineering will be considered.
  • You will be an experienced Die Engineer with proven experience in Tooling, particularly within the context of manufacturing Batteries or similar precision components.
  • You will have a proven ability to design and manufacture Tooling.
  • Previous experience working to extremely tight tolerances within a Tooling environment is needed.
  • Should have an in-depth knowledge of materials used in die fabrication and their properties.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities to address issues related to die performance, production efficiency, and quality needed.
  • Should have a familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Effective communication skills needed to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work.
  • Experience with automation and robotics in manufacturing settings would be really advantageous.
