Job Description

The words chef and social life dont often go together. Its like cake and gravy; they dont go well together.Well, not this time. With this job you can have your cake and eat it - with or without gravy.By that, we mean that as a chef at the Spinney you will work 5 days a week, and you will not be under insane pressure and stress.You will be part of a team preparing and cooking lunch and dinner on a large scale for staff and service users. You will also provide guidance and training to your peers.Its a calm and pleasurable working environment, where youll be able to manage your workload and enjoy creating meals. Theres a great social aspect to this role where you can interact with people outside the kitchen regularly.Just imagine… home in time for dinner every night. Two days off a week. And not stressed to the hilt.Your responsibilities

  • Participate in food purchasing through established procedures with an emphasis on cost and quality control.
  • Participate in food costings through effective cost control procedures.
  • Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation according to established procedures.
  • Prepare and cook meals to a consistently high standard.
  • Present and package food as required for distribution.
  • To serve patients, staff and visitors with food and beverage in a professional and curtious services manner.
  • To assist with the checking of incoming supplies and putting them away in the designated storage areas.
  • Distribution of foods
  • Preparing and producing foods for conferences and banquets
  • To ensure that all areas/equipment within the kitchen and onsite vending machines are cleaned to a high standard using appropriate chemicals following manufacturers instructions.
  • To be successful in this role, youll need
  • GCSE or equivalent English
  • Good general standard of education (essential)
  • City & Guilds 706/1 or equivalent (essential) Basic Food Preparation Cooking
  • City & Guilds 706/2 or equivalent (essential) Basic Food Preparation Cooking
  • Basic Food Hygiene
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene
  • Supervising qualification or working towards
  • Able to communicate with patients, visitors and staff at all levels
  • Able to cope with ease under pressure
  • Preparing and producing quality food to a high standard
  • Knowledge of menu planning and costing
  • Knowledge of stock systems, ordering, stock control and supervising staff
  • Knowledge of COSHH
  • Health and Safety
  • HR and staff development Experience
  • Security within a secure unit
  • Where you will be workingLocation: Everest Road, Atherton, Manchester, M46 9NTYou will be working at The Spinney, a service which offer a range of care settings for male patients with personality disorder and/or mental illness. The purpose-built medium, low secure and rehabilitation wards, as well as a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) are all set within an 11 acre site with extensive woodland and landscaped areas.You will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team at The Spinney who have previously been recognised by the Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) for their ability to reinforce positive behaviour, prevention of challenging behaviour and successful interventions in a secure care setting.What you will get
