Job Description

Opus Education are currently looking for Learning Support Assistants to work in a Special Educational Needs School in Ashburton.This role will be working in a school set in the rural landscape of Newton Abbot, who work with children with the schools clear vision to help transform the life chances of young people who have experienced childhood trauma.Requirements:

  • Skills and Qualities:The passion to motivate children, with the ability to create the best conditions for learning or teaching new things, and an adaptable communication style
The sensitivity, listening skills and patience to build good relationships and remain calm in stressful situations The flexibility and openness to work on various different activities
  • Experience:Experience within a school, care or support setting is desirable but not essential
You do not need direct experience to become a Teaching Assistant, no matter what sector you come from, if you are eager to support children and can exhibit the transferable skills then this could be the role for youResponsibilities:
  • Enhanceeach lesson in advance by helping the teacher prepare lesson materials and equipment
  • Encourageindividuals and groups to interact and engage both within the class and during activities
  • Createtrusting relationships and be adaptable around individual needs and working styles to promote good conduct and behaviours
  • Supervisegroup activities; before school, after school and on school trips
  • Developindividuals by providing feedback to both children and teachers on achievements, progress, and any problems that arise
  • Providea safe and healthy environment and follow safeguarding procedures
