Job Description

Summary The North Devon Grasslands project is striving to restore wildflower rich places across North Devon. The drive and enthusiasm of Rangers is making species rich grassland, on a landscape scale, a reality.With a love for the great outdoors, youll enjoy working with nature and want to inspire and motivate others.Youll help to make habitats for wildlife better and make everyone feel welcome at our places. As part of the Ranger team, youll need to think about our impact on the environment and how you can help.This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.Were hoping to get you started as soon as possible in May! What its like to work here This role is based at Arlington Court. In this role youll report to the Project Co-ordinator. The role will focus on the creation, monitoring and management of species rich grasslands across North Devon. Grasslands are a cornerstone of a variety of habitatsfrom temperate rainforest and lowland deciduous woodland to maritime grassland and heathland.Investing in youWe want you to learn, discover and develop your career. What youll be doing As Assistant Ranger, youll undertake different task in countryside management focused around the North Devon Grasslands project. From botanical surveys of grassland and seed harvesting to machinery maintenance and engagement events.It will also includenature conservation working to make habitats better for wildlife, supporting volunteers, and helping to deliver activities that strengthen peoples connections with the outdoors.As no two days are the same, the nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial to ensure the right level of support is given across the site. So, whether youre maintaining our green spaces or talking to people, youll inspire others to love ourbeautiful places as much as you do. Who were looking for Wed love to hear from you if you are:

  • Able to demonstrate practical experience in land, conservation and access management to level 2 or have 6 months vocational experience
  • Willing to work outside in all weathers and deliver tasks when the weather conditions arent ideal
  • Comfortable working in a flexible and adaptable way
  • Able to work alone or under direction, and as part of a team
  • Positive with an approachable attitude
  • Happy and willing to learn new things
  • Enjoy the work you do and happy to share this with others
