Job Description

Summary North Devons grassland restoration project aims to ensure that our grasslands are species rich, healthy and provide a home for wildlife whilst at the same time being accessible and enjoyed by everyone. The North Devon portfolio has identified 1275ha ofgrassland requiring an increase in wildflower and grass species diversity over the next few years. Working collaboratively across the four individual ranger teams with a range of tenants and partners the project will create a shared landscape scale wildflowerand grassland donor site resource in order to achieve our ambitious target. The project will also provide learning opportunities within the wider National Trust and externally and also engagement opportunities for the public.The project will bring the landscapeto life and inspire people to care for these special placesWe are seeking a highly competent Project Ranger to deliver a four-year programme of grassland restoration and creation. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to work collaboratively across North Devon who has drive and ambition, to join our passionateand energetic team in North Devon to make a real difference. What its like to work here The North Devon portfolio is an incredible place, with a key focus on nature recovery and delivering excellent experiences. The portfolio covers 60 miles of coastline and 11,000 acres of countryside. Working collaboratively with in-house teams, tenants,contractors and external stakeholders across the portfolio will be absolutely key. Sharing resources, knowledge, and skills to ensure we deliver our work at a truly landscape scale.The role is based within the North Devon Ranger team, and you will work closely with regional colleagues as well as the property teams in the North Devon portfolio. The project is one of the most ambitious grassland restoration projects the National Trusthas undertaken and building partnerships and sharing learning throughout the project will be key to its success.You will have a dynamic working week and will need the ability to travel throughout North Devon for meetings and to facilitate onsite works. Work will be a combination of working from property offices, occasional home working and being on site. Your mainoffice could either be at Baggy Point in Croyde, Arlington Court or one of our existing Rangers bases.For more information about our property please visit days-out/regionsouthwest/devon What youll be doing You will be managing the North Devon Grassland Restoration project initially ensuring delivery of the crucial creation of the 86ha of donor sites in the first year, as well as working with our fundraising teams to identify future funding opportunities.You wont be afraid to look at things differently and will explore and help to trial innovative solutions to grassland restoration and climate challenges.   • Experience of grassland habitat restoration techniques and grassland habitat management.
  • Experience and competency in the use of 4x4, trailers, ATVs, tractors.
  • Experience in leading and delivering projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, youre brilliant with people and build good working relationships with everyone around you.
  • Youll be able to work on your own initiative and have good decision-making skills and the ability to influence people.
  • Good financial acumen including experience of managing budgets to control costs.
  • Experience and passion for public engagement to share and tell our nature success stories.
  • Basic botanical skills and grassland species identification knowledge.
Who were looking for To deliver this role successfully, you will need to;
  • Have practical experience of countryside/rural skills
  • Have evidence of good people management and leadership
  • Have excellent communication skills including public presentation
  • Have strong organisational skills including work programming
  • Have a proven track record of managing and leading on health and safety and environmental compliance
  • Have a full UK Driving licence
  • Be able to manage contractors and small projects, including budgets.
And youll need to demonstrate the following experience on your CV/Application;
  • Diploma/NVQ3 or higher in countryside or environmental conservation
  • Have good wildlife identification skills
  • Habitat and species surveying experience
  • Empathy with, and significant experience of, working with volunteers
