Job Description

The RoleAt the National Memorial Arboretum, we believe in building on potential. As afoodservice assistant your ability to provide outstanding customer service across the National Memorial Arboretum could have a real impact on people’s lives.At its heart, the National Memorial Arboretum is a people organisation. People who want to do the very best for others, while at the same time making the most of the opportunities and experiences we offer them.The Arboretum is the UK’s year-round centre of Remembrance and part of the Royal British Legion. Home to over 350 memorials, including the nationally-important Armed Forces Memorial, it remembers the service and sacrifice of those who have served and continueto serve our country. The 150-acre site features around 30,000 maturing trees and an abundance of wildlife. Each year the Arboretum welcomes around 300,000 visitors, many of whom attend one of the 200+ events which take place across the site.In March 2017, the National Memorial Arboretum formally opened its new award-winning Remembrance Centre.If successful, the main duties of your role will be:

  • To work as part of the Food Services Team and to carry out preparation, presentation, service and cleaning duties as directed by the Executive Head Chef within the kitchen and dining areas.
  • To work in all areas of activity within the catering department, including the Restaurant, Coffee Shop, Aspects Events Centre and ‘pop up’ outlets.
  • To ensure that the dishwasher areas remain adequately clean and clear throughout each service time.
  • To clear and clean dining room trolley’s as soon as practicable.
  • To make sure the cutlery and glassware are polished, tidy and full at all times.
  • To ensure that all waste bin areas are clean and tidy at all times.
  • To undertake all aspects of catering equipment cleaning as appropriate and required by the Executive Head Chef, including fixtures, fittings, pots, pans, crockery, glassware etc.
  • To undertake all aspects of keeping storage area’s clean, tidy, and in chronological order at all times.
  • To adhere to statutory regulations and NMA’s policies on food safety and health and safety within all catering areas.
  • To report any customer complaints and/or compliments.
  • To undertake training as required and taking positive steps to keep abreast of current catering practices.
