Job Description

Purpose of Job: To generate sales for a national timber merchants in the North of England (covering Yorkshire, Lancashire, Northumberland, Durham & Cumbria) by contacting and visiting new and existing customers and building solid business relationships with them. Responsible for processing timber quotations and orders for sales enquiries via telephone, fax and email.Working in the Office one day per week and in the above locations four days per weekHours of Work: 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday, plus extra hours as required.Duties and responsibilities:

  • Generating sales in the above Location
  • Building mutually beneficial relationships with customers
  • Maintaining contact with existing customers
  • Increasing the client base, by seeking out new customers in the area.
  • Meeting sales/profit targets agreed with the Managing Director and Sales Director.
  • Dealing with customer enquiries over the telephone, via email or fax.
  • Preparing quotes for customers with best possible margins with the most suitable stocks for the purpose.
  • Chasing up enquiries
  • Writing orders out following procedures and preparing for credit control.
  • Responsible for any disputes/problems/further enquiries in relation to any orders taken on and in the listed Location
  • Being aware of account credit facilities.
  • Daily updating contact reports.
  • Cold calling potential customers, to generate new business.
  • Answering incoming calls.
  • Answering technical questions on products over the phone and face to face.
  • Good knowledge of the stock in the yard, through computer system and visual inspections.
  • Essential Criteria:
  • Friendly/confident telephone manner.
  • Eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills Word/Excel/Outlook/Open office
  • Extensive hardwood timber knowledge - Grading rules/Machining/Wastage
  • Willingness to continue learning.
  • Proactive, contributing new ideas, improvements to systems and procedures etc
