Job Description

Job Title: Graduate Trading Analyst / Energy TraderReporting to: Head of Trading Based in TeessideLocation: Based in Wilton, TeessideSalary: Negotiable, Sembcorp are keen to attract, retain and develop the highest calibre of candidates. Also, the company offer a market leading benefits package and annual bonus.Position Overview:The Company relies on sector specific expertise to ensure optimisation of its generation assets and wishes to provide the opportunity for graduates to develop into this niche career choice. To develop your expertise, we have a program in place which beginsin the role of Graduate Trading Analyst. This is a Monday to Friday job role, and provides great exposure and grounding to allow you to learn about the UK Energy Markets and develop quantitative analytical and modelling skills.With the above experience under your belt you are in a prime position to transfer into the role of Graduate Energy Trader. In this role you will be responsible for supporting the optimisation of generation assets by monitoring markets and reporting on anymarket drivers, as well as identifying any potential risks to Sembcorp’s portfolio and carrying out trading strategies.Following a full training period, during which you will be mentored, you will be working as part of a shift team which works on a 12hr rotation, ensuring that the Trading desk is always covered.Key ResponsibilitiesGraduate Trading Analyst

  • Provide and present daily analysis and insight on the wholesale traded and system services markets and their drivers.
  • Work alongside the trading team and play an active part in providing recommendations and challenging the trading strategy.
  • Perform ad hoc quantitative analysis and model development to support trading and business decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the wider Trading and Optimisation team as well as Finance, Risk, Commercial, Operations, Strategy and others, in order to deliver optimal outcomes for Sembcorp.
Graduate Energy Trader
  • Supporting the optimisation of Sembcorp Energy UK’s generation assets in both the Day Ahead and Within-Day UK Energy markets.
  • Carry out approved trading strategies for both Power and Gas markets.
  • Identify and evaluate value added trading strategies and opportunities within the UK wholesale Energy markets.
  • Correct trade allocation, nomination and scheduling.
  • Provide analytical support for detailed and timely analysis of UK Power and Gas markets.
  • Build relationships with both existing and new counterparties.
  • Comply with Sembcorp’s risk and compliance policies and procedures.
