Job Description

Senior Childrens Home Residential Support WorkerWe have a fantastic opportunity available for a Qualified level 3 Children & Young People - Childrens Senior Residential Support Worker.About the job:You will be joining a leading specialist client who cater for supporting children within in a full time (LAC) looked after care - residential setting.We are looking for enthusiastic staff who have a passion for working with children and would like to help all children in care develop and nurture their life experiences. The home operates 24-hours each day, every day of the year, requiring round-the-clock staffing and management. Senior RSWs are required to conform to appropriate standards of conduct at all times and to be mindful that they serve as important role models tothe children in their care. You will be contracted to 37 hours per week with an average of 6-10 sleep ins per month. The home provides solo and dual residential placements for young people with complex emotional and behavioural issues and is based in Whitefield, ManchesterWhat would I be doingSenior RSWs are required to provide care and support to children in the 8 to 17 age range, although most of the residents are likely to be in their mid-teens. The full-time shift pattern is a 24-hour shift through to the following day, including sleeping-inovernight. Senior RSWs typically work two-three full shifts per week, including shifts on the weekends. The homes aim is to provide a family-type atmosphere.You will be expected to meet the needs of children as follows:

  • To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which children/young people can feel secure and free from harm.
  • To actively promote the childs/young persons education by assisting with and encouraging school attendance, homework, school liaison, attending parents meetings/evenings, PEPs etc, in particular with the Education Department.
  • To act as a positive role model to any child within the organisation. To bring into practice a Therapeutic approach in dealing with any Child regardless of age.
  • To assist the Support Workers in their roles as Key Workers and act as a link worker to the Children/Young People when their Key Worker is not available.
  • Ensuring that each member of staff is aware of each childs care plan and their responsibilities for its implementation
  • Attending childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people
  • Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as an appropriate role model.
  • To be responsible for, the maintenance of good quality written records and reports regarding the children/young people in our care. To ensure that all paperwork is clear and eligible.
  • Chairing childrens meetings and facilitating consultation with young people generally
  • Acting as an appropriate adult where appropriate.
To manage a staff team through:
  • Providing managerial control and direction in relation to staff duties and responsibilities.
  • Taking responsibility for planning shifts and ensuring their smooth running when on duty.
  • Providing consultation and informal advice and support to staff in relation to day to day matters.
  • Offering 1:1 supervision to staff in line with National Minimum Standards
  • Contributing to team and staff meetings to facilitate good communication and staff development
  • To co operate with the companys relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post

General Responsibilities:
  • To assist the Registered/Deputy Manager in the implementation of all aspects of the Statement of Purpose
  • To deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • To drive company vehicles - subject to policies and procedures
  • To work on a rota basis according to the needs of young people
  • To ensure that resources are allocated appropriately and financial records are accurately maintained
  • To receive supervision in line with National Minimum Standards and to take responsibility for personal development and progress of individual training needs
What experience or qualifications would I needTo be considered for this role you must have proven previous experience and a passion to work in the child care sector. Ideally you will hold or be working towards a Level 3 QCF Children and Young Peoples Workforce or Residential Childcare.We are looking for candidates aged 23+.You MUST have a full UK driving license and your own car for this role.What would I get in return- £10.63 - £11.41 per hour plus £50 a sleep in with an average of 6-10 sleep ins per month.
