Job Description

It is responsible for the delivery of all legal services to the Welsh Government. You will work in a team situation, gaining experience of working with lawyers, policyclients and Welsh Ministers to shape policy in Wales.Location: United Kingdom - RemoteContract: 1 to 2 years Fixed Term/TempWork hours:Full time/Part time work available - RemoteSalary: £53,440 Per Annum - £27.33 per hour PAYE - £35.50 per hour UmbrellaVacancies: 3Main duties and responsibilities

  • To provide and contribute to the provision of legal advice within a team portfolio.
  • To prepare, or assist in the production of, full instructions for primary legislation either relating to Bills forming part of the Welsh Government legislative programme or relating to Welsh provisions in UK Parliamentary Bills.
  • Drafting, or assisting in the drafting, of a range of subordinate legislation and other documentation within the team portfolio and to monitor its passage through Senedd procedures as necessary.
  • To contribute to the effective delivery of legal services within the team portfolio.
  • To contribute to the team and ensure responsiveness to customer/client needs and changing circumstances.
  • To undertake such other duties, responsibilities, tasks or projects as are specified by the Team Leader or a Deputy Director of Legal Services which are commensurate with the level of the post.
  • To provide support and cover for colleagues within the office as directed by the Team Leader or a Deputy Director of Legal Services.
Essential
  • Applicants must be qualified to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (meeting the professional entry criteria below) in England and Wales. A minimum of three years’ post qualification experience is required.
  • Professional entry for chartered Legal Executives (i.e. Fellows): Chartered Legal Executives are eligible to apply where (i) a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) is held; or (ii) the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL)/CPE has been completed; or (iii) where exams havebeen passed (i.e. a score of 50% or above achieved), at CILEx Level 6, in all of the following seven foundation subjects in law:
1.Contract Law2.Criminal Law3.Equity and Trusts Law4.European Union Law5.Land Law6.Public Law7.Law of Tort
  • Chartered Legal Executives should note that the Welsh Government will be willing to accept an, overall, average score of 65% or above across exams in the seven foundation subjects in law (where studied at CILEx Level 6).
