Job Description

  • Hold a suitable mechanical engineering qualification (Plant Vehicles/Equipments).
  • Attend and pass Defence Instructional Techniques certificate.
  • Attend and pass ASLS Training for Instructors of Phase 2 & 3 personnel.
  • Hold Category C, G & H driving licence as appropriate.
  • Attend and/or have attended Manual Handling Training.
  • Attend RSME Induction Training Course.
  • Hold and/or be working towards an appropriate NVQ Assessor/Verifier awards.
Essential:
  • City & Guilds 620 Pt III and/or be a Military Trained Fitter or equivalent.
  • Hold a Professional Teaching Certificate.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • To instruct both Regular and Reservist soldiers who attend formal ME Ftr, REME C Mech & Plant Operator courses at RSME in the operation and maintenance of all in-service C Vehicles and Engineer Construction Plant equipments in accordance with the relevantCTP/Training Objectives.
  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of students whilst under their control. To include the safe use of all tools and equipment in line with the topic being taught. Uphold and adhere to department and Company safety instructions.
  • Maintain course and individual records as appropriate.
  • Assess and mark course work including progressive tests in both theory and practical aspects to both military and civilian awarding body standards. Where necessary you are to liaise with the Company training analyst.
  • Carry out any other reasonable task as deemed appropriate and commensurate to the grade.
GENERAL DUTIES
  • Be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of course dossiers. (Lesson plans, documents, tests etc).
  • Mark, assess and give constructive feedback on student work.
  • Responsible for serviceability and maintenance of equipment used by students under their control including where appropriate the development and maintenance of automotive training aids.
  • Assist in the ordering of equipment/s and materials as required by the appropriate CTP/Training programme:
  1. Assist in the receipt of equipment from Babcock Defence Services (BDS).
  2. Maintain the equipment and its associated documentation for the duration of its loan.
  3. Maintain an equipment fault book and report faults immediately to BDS.
  4. Monitor and record the rectification of faults installed onto machinery as part of training.
  5. Return loan equipment/s to BDS in a timely manner.
  • Submit reports on students and courses as detailed by the Training (Phase) Manager or Section Leader.
  • Carry out any reasonable task given to you by the Section Leader, Training (Phase) Manager and/or Department Manager.
  • Stand in for the Section Leader when requested.
  • Instruct and supervise students relating to the following topics:
  1. Transmissions which include all clutches, types of drive trains components, steering, suspension, braking systems and crawler track assemblies.
  2. Basic general mechanical principles.
  3. Power hydraulic circuits and components.
  4. Electrical and electronic control systems.
  5. Fault diagnosis processes and control systems.
  6. Equipment specific mechanical principles.
  7. Workshop management procedures and systems.
  8. Basic bench fitting and engineering skills.
  • To be responsible for your own welfare by following the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and other related policies such as Equal Opportunities, Harassment, Disability and Data Protection etc.
  • Ensure that your personal records with regards to your competencies are maintained and that all courses of instruction undertaken in support of your employment are entered onto the appropriate training registers.
  • Supervise and instruct students during fitter equipment functional operations training on both the current in service C Vehs & ECP equipments.
  • Ensure that your areas of responsibility within the mechanical training section are maintained in an appropriate condition.
Management/Communication
  • To communicate honestly with your Line Manager.
  • To be responsible for your own time and attendance at work.
  • To achieve deadlines/targets that has been set by your Line Manager.
  • To assist your Line Manager to implement change within the department.
  • Follow the requirements of the Defence code of Practice for Trainers.
  • To communicate and liaise with all other departments, as required.
  • To assist your Line Manager to work towards the Business Plan and Long Term/Strategic objectives.
Reviews & Planning
  • To be available to be reviewed and appraised by your immediate Line Manager in a timely manner.
Training & Evaluation
  • To ensure that you receive any agreed training that has been identified either at appraisal or outside of appraisal.
  • To complete requests for training documentation and discuss this fully with your Line Manager in a timely manner in line with the Staff Training Procedure.
  • In conjunction with your Line Manager evaluate the effectiveness of the training and development activities you have undertaken.
  • To effectively utilise new skills from your training.
Responsibilities
