Job Description

As part of the Abellio Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a Technician, on a fixed term, 6 month contract, based in Tyseley, Birmingham.What does the job involve

  • Servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification of traction and rolling stock
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on rolling stock to set specifications
  • Attend In-Service Failures
  • Ensuring cost effective use of materials - including the use of any electronic Maintenance Management System
  • To ride units in service to gain insight into unit condition, as required
  • Compliance with processes and procedures aligned with the Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems
  • Make recommendations to management and technical staff that lead to the improvement of technical documentation, tooling or other work practices that would lead to improved productivity/efficiency, greater safety or higher fleet reliability
What skills and experience do I need to do the job
  • Completed appropriate apprenticeship or hold relevant qualifications in electrical / mechanical engineering as specified by current company policy.
  • Emergency First Aid competent
  • Power Plant equipment trained
  • Good IT skills
  • E2 Competent
  • Some specific additional skills in one of these areas would be useful - Lathe Operator, Welder, Carriage repairer/painter
