Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is seeking a Fire Engineer to join their team based in Maidstone. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis in return for a competitive salary of £36,042 - £41,433 per annumOur Fire Engineer will be based at Maidstone Fire Station, maintaining a workload of building regulation consultations for the Fire Engineering Team by making recommendations to Building Control Bodies within agreed time scales. This could mean visiting premises that may have vulnerable children or adults within them, therefore in order to fulfil the range of duties required you will need a DBS check.Key responsibilities as our Fire Engineer:- Analyse, research and provide high level risk based fire safety solutions to our customers in relation to the built environment, including heritage, schools and healthcare- Work with local authorities and approved inspectors by reviewing and consulting on statutory work areas within agreed time scales, on a wide range of projects, encouraging collaborative partnerships- Provide managers with information to inform policy decisions, including highlighting areas of concern or risk to individuals or the Service- Identify opportunities for improvements in customer service and provide managers with support to improve services where relevant- Provide written and verbal advice to all customers on technical and legislative requirements under the current Fire Safety Legislation- Engage with the National Fire Chiefs Council and other groups via forums and other channels to ensure currency on best practice and development nationally- You will on occasions represent KFRS in meetings or as a presenter- Provide and support an understanding and awareness regarding the role of Fire Safety Engineer to others within KFRSWhat we’re looking for in ourFire Engineer:- Fire Safety Legislation i.e. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005- A working knowledge of the Building Regulations Approved Document B and relevant British Standards- An understanding of performance based fire engineering principles and relevant guidance documents, including the BS 7974 series- A practical understanding of fire dynamics- Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, which involves the ability to communicate to a range of audiences, producing comprehensive, accurate and relevant written documentation/reports through research and within agreed time scales- Ability to analyse and interpret ‘Computational Fluid Dynamics’- A civil, structural, mechanical or fire engineering based degree (B.Eng or higher), most preferably to include optional fire safety related modules, or working towards it- Experience of carrying out consultations of buildings and workplaces in a wide range of occupancies (simple to complex)- Experience of managing or leading on projects to completion against acceptance criteria, within agreed time scales- Experience of researching and producing quality reports to provide customers with information that will secure continuous improvementsIf you feel have the skills and experience to become our Fire Engineer please click ‘apply’ today, we’d love to hear from you!Closing Date: 23:59 hours on 22nd October 2020Please note that if successful you will be required to undergo a DBS check.
