Job Description

Shift Pattern:
  • Work up to 5 days a week (MondayFriday, 09:00 am17:00 pm)
Duties:
  • Work within the pharmacy clinical trials team at MPFT NHS Trust to support the Trusts growing portfolio of clinical research across all clinical specialties, in particular rheumatology
  • Assist the Clinical Trials and Research Pharmacist in all aspects of clinical trials and ensure compliance with current national legislation, the International Conference of Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) guidance and the Research GovernanceFramework (2005) in the conduct of clinical research
  • Assist in co-ordinating the pharmaceutical input into the setting-up, design and running of clinical trials at the MPFT
  • Assist the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team in producing and checking costings for clinical trials where necessary
  • Assist with the raising, completion and implementation of all relevant IMP and non-IMP documents, controlled procedures, feasibility assessments, prescriptions, dispensing procedures, accountability logs, and stock management records
  • Support in the production and maintenance of dispensing procedures for all clinical trials
  • Provide written instructions and training for pharmacy staff on how to dispense, label, check, handle the investigational medicinal product (IMP), and perform code-breaks
  • Assist with training and accreditation of pharmacy staff for clinical trials
  • Support in the critical review of clinical trial protocols on their impact on pharmacy, e.g. packaging, labelling and documentation, incorporating further comments from appropriate specialist clinical and technical pharmacists where required
  • Liaise with the pharmacy clinical trials team to assess the impact of substantial amendments on local trial documentation
  • Help ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to both the research teams, pharmacy and patient requirement/needs
  • Support all pharmacy staff in the provision of the service
  • Accurately screen, dispense, check prescriptions and counsel patients regarding their medication as required in accordance with the particular study protocol
  • Supervise the initial check and preparation of Investigational Medicinal Products and NIMPs for all active Clinical Trials
  • Support the Pharmacy investigations into study issues and incidents involving IMP, ensuring appropriate documentation and completion of any actions
  • Maintain a good working relationship with sponsors, monitors, the R&D department, auditors and regulatory authorities
Requirements of the Pharmacist:
  • GPHC Registration
  • Demonstrable experience of clinical trials pharmacy is desirable but not essential, as extensive training will be provided
  • NVQ or equivalentPharmacist qualification
