Job Description

We are looking for a Business Manager to join our AMRICC team. Working Monday to Friday, you will be based in Staffordshire. Benefits include: 25 days holiday (plus public holidays)Flexible working arrangements (variable start and end times)Privatemedical cover (including a cash plan to pay most excesses, and the option to enrol other family members)Role PurposeThe Midlands Industrial Ceramics Group has secured £18.27 million in government funding provided through UK Research and Innovations flagship Strength in Places Fund (SIPF), to put the midlands region firmly on the map as a global centre for advanced ceramics.This core activity will kick-start a wider programme of work to accelerate the R&D, technology adoption and growth of the advanced ceramics supply chains in the Midlands and wider UK.Central to this will be AMRICC, the Applied Materials Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Company, which will grow activities in the commercialisation of advanced ceramics technologies through expanded capacity in its pilot lines and testing facilities.This will allow the rapid translation of ceramic materials, processes and technologies R&D into real-world, commercial solutions.The Business Manager will be an integral member of the team to help achieve this new business growth of membership, client services and business activities within the new facility.Accountabilities

  • Create customer demand through targeted insight of key business challenges, needs and causes and how these match to the capabilities within AMRICC
  • Lead and advance discussions with influential decision makers within potential customers and their supply chains to secure interest in becoming a member of AMRICC, progressing the negotiation and sign up process.
  • Develop wider potential client interest and business development in use of the AMRICC facility with national and international customers including universities and other technology development organisations
  • Expand and enhance the overall relationship base across the region and nationally for advanced ceramic commercialisation clients
  • Develop a strategic target account portfolio of potential customers to meet and exceed AMRICC growth objectives.
  • Deliver new business growth and revenue targets as agreed.
Experience
  • Successful candidate will have completed a postgraduate qualification in a relevant science / engineering discipline
  • Experienced in new business development negotiating and closing the deal with potential clients
  • Scale-up and commercialisation related to new materials innovation through manufacturing experience, including ceramics manufacturing experience
  • Experience of working in materials technology development and technical commercial environments, with the ability to identify the match between customer needs and organisational capabilities
  • Understanding of industry and academic technological collaborations and commercialisation relationships with an ability to develop strong client relationships
  • Demonstrate a passion for enterprise, with the ability to identify a market opportunity and finalise a commercial deal
  • Leadership and management in cross functional teams with an ability to motivate high performance in others across the organisation.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Expert in negotiating and delivering contractual and sales agreements in innovation development
  • Good interpersonal and relationship management skillsability to build and maintain good working relationships across organisations
  • Influencing and communicating skills with people at all levels inside and outside the company
  • Ability to work independently and deal with unforeseen problems or circumstances in a proactive and methodical manner
  • Ability to plan and progress work activities using initiative and judgement.
