Job Description

Job Title: Assistant General OperatorJob Location: Tunstall, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, UKSalary: £25k p.a.Job Purpose: Stoke Operations Limited (SOL) are an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) service provider who have been awarded a 5-year agreement to operate and maintain a new Clinical Waste Incinerator Facility, located near Tunstall, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. The Facility is owned by Clinitek (Stoke) LLP and will process up to 16000 tonnes of clinical waste per annum whilst generating electricity for export. SOL is a subsidiary of Cobalt Energy Limited (CEL) who are a renowned thermal renewables and environmental engineering, service provider. CEL have been established for over a decade and have been successfully operating in the renewable power generation sector throughout this period.SOL are looking to appoint 5 Assistant General Operators to enact the safe and reliable operation of the new facility. The Assistant General Operators will be employed during the construction phase of the project to ensure plant and process knowledge is established, necessary training is undertaken and to assist the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors with the plant operation during the hot commissioning phase. They will report to the designated General Operator and will commence employment on a day-shift basis and thus change to a regular shift pattern when operations commence.Job Duties:

  • Hands-on process equipment management to maintain continuous plant operations.
  • Fuel (clinical waste and oil), process consumables, water and residues sampling activities.
  • Minor reactive maintenance and process stoppage situations (such as process blockages).
  • Support unloading, loading and storage operations of fuel (medical waste and oil), process consumables and residues receptacles (such as bins, IBCs and waste vessels) to maintain safe, efficient and continuous plant operations.
  • Support fuel weighing and barcode recording operations.
  • Support bin washing operations.
  • Support plant inspections to ensure the required condition of the plant equipment at all times.
  • Support permit management.
  • Enact and adhere to operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and orderly plant condition to the prescribed standard.
  • To understand and comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and Legislation.
  • Provide shift cover for other operators in the event of sickness, holiday or training.
  • To work as part of a 365 day, 24/7, shift-rota.
  • Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
  • Knowledge and experience as a junior or assistant plant operator - power, heat generation / incineration / clinical waste would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Practical / hands-on plant process operational experience - in the shop-floor / factory environment.
  • A strong appreciation of and regard for Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental matters is essential.
  • A flexible working attitude and a strong team working approach are essential - you must be willing to maintain the process as the situation requires, in accordance with Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Mobile plant operators’ certificates would be an advantage.
  • WAMITAB, CoTC, etc. qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
  • A Health and Safety qualification would be an advantage.
