Job Description

Norcros Adhesives is a rapidly growing and well-established manufacturer and supplier of branded adhesives, grouts, and surface preparation products for fixing ceramic and porcelain tiles, mosaics, natural stone, marble, and soft floor coverings.Based in Stoke-on-Trent, this is an exciting, challenging, opportunity for someone willing to take up the challenge with a fast-growing company to become part of a friendly, collaborative team.What its like being an apprentice laboratory technicianAs a Lab Technician Apprentice, you will play an integral role in supporting the Lab Managerin ensuring products are tested to the relevant standards. As an apprentice you will have the opportunity to be involved in quality control, quality assurance, andsome developmental chemistry.Day to day tasks will include the following:

  • Assisting the Quality Engineer in daily tasks
  • Assist in small improvement projects
  • Develop, value engineer, and monitor products with the Development Chemist
  • Ensure routine drift checks and maintenance is carried out on equipment
  • Work with the Quality Engineer to investigate failures and implement countermeasures
  • Ensure the Lab and work area is clean to reduce contamination risks
  • Produce factual reports that inform managers and customers within agreed deadlines
  • Proactively communicate within the team to ensure effective performance
  • Comply with laboratory safety procedures
  • Take responsibility for maintaining training records
Be prepared to be on your feet as this role will involve a mix of factory, office, and laboratory activities.What could the future look likeTheres a potential for the successful applicant to be offered a full-time position working with the business at the end of the apprenticeship. Through on-the-job training youll have the opportunity to assist in projects to improve existing products aswell as developing new alternative products alongside the developmental Chemist at Norcros Adhesives.So how does the apprenticeship workAt Tiro were obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we cant wait to have you on board.Over 21 months, youll devote 20% of your 37.5 hours of working time towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. Youll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Norcros Adhesives who together, will make sureyou develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits youll need to succeed in your career.The best part Youll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme!RequirementsWhilst direct experience isnt required, we do ask that you have a passion for science and are able to demonstrate enthusiasm for this-be it through education, hobbies, or interests.Skills & Characteristics:Were looking for someone who proactively finds solutions to problems and identifies areas for improving the business. You must be comfortable working on your feet for long periods of time, both individually and as part of a wider team.Youll have a naturally enquiring mind and be confident taking on responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your own work, while managing you time effectively.To succeed in this apprenticeship, youll need bags of enthusiasm, be a fantastic collaborator and most importantly hungry to learn!The PackageAt Tiro, we make great things happen for people. And that starts with you. In this role youll receive:
  • Starting salary of £14,000 per annum
  • Raises by £500 per quarter dependent on performance
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Workings hours are Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week (6am-2.30pm)
