Job Description

The Role: "The M&G plc Risk & Compliance function is responsible for effectively advising and challenging key stakeholders, challenging risks effectively and proactively, and adding value through providing enhanced business insights to ensure that risk is managed inline with the expectations of clients, shareholders and regulators, and to support the delivery of customers long term needs. Enterprise Risk Management maintains the Risk Management Framework and is responsible for a range of enterprise level risk managementprocesses including those relating to Solvency II. The work of Enterprise Risk Management for Solvency II includes the following activities.

  • Risk identification
  • Documentation Standards
  • Use test
  • Data quality
  • Solvency and Financial Condition Reports
  • Regular Supervisory Report
  • Own Risk and Solvency Assessment
The Senior Risk Actuary/Risk Consultant will be expected to flexible in taking on different tasks to meet the needs of the team. The role holder will be expected to own and deliver key pieces of work and support the activities of ERM as required. Key Responsibilities for this role:
  • Ensure compliance to the people policies, Group Code of Conduct and embedding desired behaviours
  • Be personally accountable for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting risks within your area of responsibility, including supporting formal risk management activities e.g. Risk & Control Self Assessments and timely closure of Assurance actions
  • To lead the delivery of substantial individual pieces of ERM activities such as the solvency II activities listed above.
  • To lead in the delivery of the Plan and present findings to senior governance level committees and forums including risk and audit committees at both a plc and regulated entity level.
  • To lead on the delivery of the operational risk assurance, RCSA reliability reviews and control testing reviews/deep dives across all business areas and outsourced service providers as may be required
  • To lead and review reports of assurance and control testing review findings and recommendations
  • To provide leadership and oversight to the Operational Risk Assurance & Controls Testing Team.
  • To lead and be accountable for the development and presentation of assurance and controls testing management information and findings for Senior Management, Committees and Boards as required.
  • To be accountable for the co-ordination and delivery of the AAF report within M&GG.
  • Manage stakeholders effectively, and work collaboratively with other assurance functions (Internal Audit, Compliance Monitoring and other risk assurance teams), as well as the first line embedded risk and control teams, to support the maintenance of a robustintegrated control framework.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • Actuarial or Financial Risk experience (essential)
  • Detailed knowledge of Solvency II
  • Detailed knowledge of financial services products, systems, processes and distribution methods (essential)
  • Detailed knowledge of UK financial services sector, including regulatory, governance and risk management rules and regulations (desirable)
  • Significant experience in a risk management, capital management and modelling (desirable)
  • Experience of risk identification, data quality and internal models (essential)
  • Strong knowledge of financial services regulatory and legislative frameworks desirable and either life, pensions and investment products (desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including board level communications (essential)
  • Ability to challenge constructively, and to be pragmatic where appropriate (essential)
  • Ability to work collaboratively across immediate team and broader Risk function whilst also being to work independently under own initiative (essential)
Qualifications:
  • Qualified Actuary (Essential)
