The Role: Data Engineer Youll be joining the Customer Savings & Investments, Operational Analysis & Insight team, helping us shape the future of data-driven decision making across the business, connecting our data sources in a way that helps provide our business with the data itneeds to understand the customer experience, and in turn, drive strategic decisions. Working with many teams across M&G to help design data models, build pipelines into analytics platforms and other applications that make use of the vast array of data we gather or have available to us. You will also help us to ensure that, with our ever changingbusiness, we are collecting and making use of all data sources as they are released to customers, advisors and colleagues alike. A key part of the role will be to understand how complex data sources connect, to build in automation and to develop a true view of the customer experience. You will have a strong set of technical skills, specifically around Azure technologies and will be requiredto coach other members of the team. Working across the full project life-cycle, you will be expected to be comfortable at everything from requirements gathering, design, development, implementation and initial support. Key responsibilities for this role:To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&Gs operational risk. Work in a multi-disciplinary team to create modern solutions to our business problems, which benefit our colleagues or customers using a variety of mainly cloud based technologies including:

• Processing data from various parts of the business in many different formats including:
• Microsoft SQL Server & Oracle Databases
• Flat files
• Data streams
• REST APIs

Transforming, enriching and helping to surface that data to the business though visualisations and APIs using:

• PowerBI
• Python
• SQL & SSIS
• Azure stack
• Design and develop new solutions on the Azure Platform
• Develop and maintain Continuous Integration and Deployment pipelines for the processes and products you have built using Azure DevOps
• Develop and maintaining ETL processes predominantly using Azure, but also supporting our legacy SSIS processes.
• Coach other members of the team to raise their skills and knowledge
• Dedicate time to ensuring there is a continual focus on improving your skills and practices
• Work with the team to design and build solutions and be accountable for the quality of those solutions
• Pair-programming or peer review as appropriate
• Testing and automation of testing (BDD and TDD as appropriate)
• Utilisation of a number of Microsoft Azure PaaS components, particularly App Services
• Interact and communicate effectively with all levels of staff, senior management and clients/stakeholders

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:You should apply if:

You have a solid grounding in SQL and Python, and are comfortable using them everyday

You are an expert in Azure technologies, particularly Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Warehouse, Analysis Services, Azure Data Bricks, Azure Data Factory and Data Flows along with experience of legacy technologies such as SSIS.

You are an expert in processing data from flat files, databases, APIs, data streams and using ETL development and building stored procedures.

You have a solid grounding in leveraging data visualisation technologies to build narratives, particularly using Power BI

You have experience in building and surfacing APIs, particularly using Azure App and Azure API Management services and/or Apigee You posses some experience or knowledge of Data Modelling (ideally using AI/ML techniques)
