Job Description

Buildings Insurance Surveyor - Rural and ResidentialBarrett Corp & Harrington are excited to be entering a further phase of expansion and are seeking a talented surveyor to join our friendly team.Now in our 17th year, we are a successful RICS regulated surveying company that provides Reinstatement Cost Assessments and risk assessments to the insurance market. We work for, or alongside, many leading insurers, brokers and property managing agents toprovide property owners with the reinstatement cost for their buildings; this advice informs their insurance purchase. Currently employing in excess of 40 staff, we have built a strong reputation for assessing all types of buildings but are seen as the go-tocompany for the large, complex, or historic.We are seeking a new recruit to join our team as a Buildings Insurance Surveyor, with a focus on rural, residential, farms and estate buildings.Full training will be given. Home based, you will travel to survey properties in your local area and across the UK, as required, with possible overnight stays. You will also prepare desk-based surveys from information made available to you. Regular trainingmeetings are generally at our Warwickshire office, with some being more social and with the potential for overnight stays.In return the surveyor can expect a starting salary of £26,000, access to a bonus system with earning potential of 10-20% of base, mileage or access to an electric car salary sacrifice scheme, healthcare benefits, pension scheme, 5 weeks annual leave, careerprogression and support towards any role relevant qualifications.Duties/ Responsibilities include:On completion of training,

  • Project manage your own case load of surveying duties across a broad spectrum of rural residential, farm and commercial buildings: this includes making appointments, attending site to measure and record the building and external construction, preparinga scale drawing , an elemental costing and client report
  • Responsibility for self-sign off of your own work, within set parameters
  • Responsible for completing desk-based surveys to a defined process and standard
  • Answer client and stakeholder queries
About you:
  • Relevant experience within insurance, loss adjusting, surveying, property or construction.
  • Good knowledge of, or keen interest to acquire, full vocabulary of building pathology and the ability to describe the principal construction methods and materials used in any building.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Commercial awareness - good understanding of business principles and experience of or interest in working with various stakeholders within the rural economy
  • Keen to visit different areas of the country
  • Equally as happy working within a team or on your own
  • Strong working knowledge of Word and Excel
