Job Description

Finance ManagerStafford£55kOur client was established in 1877 by a small group of railway workers, the Stafford Railway Building Society is a mutual organisation which exists for the benefit of its members, providing a range of mortgage and savings products with an exceptional levelof service.They believe that the strength of the Society is down to their people and their values. This role presents a great opportunity to influence the ongoing development of the Society, with the Finance function in particular going through a period of evolutionand change.Reporting to the Finance Director with a team of 2 FTE the role includes attendance at ALCO (Assets & Liabilities Committee) and other management committees. It includes a broad range of responsibilities for the Finance function which are summarised below:Leading & Developing the Finance Team - the principal focus of the role will be to move the Finance team forward with guidance and support from the Finance Director.Statutory accounts - management of the annual process including the interim and year-end audit. Production of the primary statements and notes to the accounts. Attendance at Audit Committee to present the financials.Management accounts - oversight of the monthly reporting on the performance of the Society against budget/forecast with accompanying commentary and variance analysis for inclusion in the FD board pack and discussion at management committees.This includes responsibility for EIR (Effective Interest Rate), arrears reporting and provisioning.Budgeting & forecasting - oversight of the population of the model and contribution to the management of the annual budgeting/quarterly forecasting, working closely with the Finance Director and the wider Society in the completion of thesekey tasks.Treasury operations -responsibility for liquidity management and treasury dealing including engaging with brokers. This is an area which will develop over time to potentially include derivatives, wholesale funding, ILTR and other Bank ofEngland schemes.ALCO reporting & limit monitoring - responsibility for production of the ALCO packs and their ongoing development. Oversight of monitoring for liquidity and counterparty limits.Contribution to ICAAP & ILAAP (key strategic documents which set out the Societies capital and liquidity positions and are being transferred into the Finance team) - the role holder will provide information for inclusion in the these andcontribute to their ongoing development, this will include areas such as stress testing and scenario analysis.Operational finance - oversight for the daily reconciliations of all control accounts, working closely with the branch, savings and mortgage teams to resolve any queries.Accounts payable - oversight for payment runs made to suppliers, ensuring timely payments and the application of suitable financial controls.Projects - ongoing focus on utilisation and integration of systems, examples of which include;

  • Leading the integration of the accounts system and core customer system
  • Development of the daily banking process to improve efficiency and increase automation
  • Other possible systems implementations - for example a treasury management system
There will be a programme of tailored training and support provided to the role holder, including a full handover of tasks and subsequent focused development led by the Finance Director. This is expected to be a role which offers significant potentialfor development as the function continues to evolve. To be the successful candidate:
  • CIMA / ACCA - Part or Newly Qualified
  • Experience in delivering a broad range of finance tasks including monthly reporting, budgeting and statutory reporting
  • Strong analytical skills - the ability to evaluate performance against planned outcomes and understand the drivers behind results
  • A positive can-do attitude with an enquiring mind
