JOB AD:ROLE: Electronics EngineerLOCATION: Stafford, U.K.SALARY: NegotiableDURATION: 6 Months minimumDescription:The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and rapidly growing team of engineers working on the development of new power electronics applications for power systems.particularly for HVDC converters and the forthcoming "HVDC Grid". HVDC Valves are large and complex structures, with typical dimensions of several metres in each direction and weighing many tens of tonnes. The development of such converters is technically challenging and involves a variety of engineering disciplines, contribution through teamwork and an innovative approach.Responsibilities:Lead on electronic circuit board (PCB) verificationImplement and perform validation tests and design-proving testsWriting requirement, design, routine test and validation specifications for control and protection electronics.Specification of ATE equipment and industrialisation activitiesWork closely with supply chain and support supplier and manufacturing and site activities.Integration with other departments (engineering, manufacturing, S&P, SQA) for product development and support tendering and project deliveryDesign and specification of electronic componentsAnalysing system requirements and defining functions to be implemented in Hardware and/or FirmwareCreating and maintaining manufacturing datapacksCompleting engineering activities to cost and to scheduleParticipating in and contributing to technical design reviews with engineering expertsCompile DFMEA and design document and know how to apply PFMEAReview and approve design documentation when requiredWork closely with the Firmware implementation and verification team to ensure functional requirements are met.Strict adherence to safety policies and promote EHS within the teamTravel across the EU and other countries for supply chain integrationSkills and Experience:Strong all-round knowledge and understanding of electronic components, circuit design and principles.High power Analogue electronic circuit designHigh-speed digital design and PCB layout skillsStrong control electronics/PCB debugging skillsDesign for excellence (DFX) (e.g. manufacturing, cost, size, weight, efficiency, performance, test, maintenance)Specification & report writing and reviewingDesign, routine test, type test and verification specificationAbility to interact with other engineering disciplines and good at sharing knowledgeGood communication skills, fluent in English.EHS compliance abilityCandidates should have proven experience of the design and development of power converter control electronics. A good understanding of power semiconductors, their control, protection and application is advantageous. It is also advantageous to have an understanding of the passive components that form part of a power electronics converter, such as inductors, capacitors, etc.
