Job Description

TECHNICIAN IN ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONFull-time 37 hours per weekLocation: Stafford CollegeSalary: £21,146 - £24,405Newcastle & Stafford Colleges Group is currently home to around 2,000 apprentices where we work with over 800 individual employers. In addition, we have a population of over 5,000 full-time students and around 500 students on higher education programmes.NSCG is financially one of the strongest of its kind in the country with very high success rates and the best provider of construction skills training in Staffordshire.We are one of only 3 providers in England to achieve an outstanding grade for apprenticeships delivery under the Ofsteds new inspection framework - in fact were outstanding in every inspection area. To read the full Ofsted report for Newcastle and StaffordColleges Group, please visit the Ofsted Government website.At present, we are investing c£25 million in a new Technology & Engineering facility at our Stafford site and also a further c£20 million at our Newcastle site in a combined project to become an Institute of Technology & Engineering Centre in associationwith Keele University.We are looking for suitably qualified individuals to join our pro-active, dynamic and friendly Construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of technical support within the Electrical Installation department. You willalso support the delivery of outstanding workshop teaching, learning and assessment within the Electrical Installation curriculum which is key to delivering high quality apprenticeships and work based training to local employers.Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To support all technical aspects of delivery in the workshop and assist staff in developing students in industry standard skills and competency in the construction areas with an emphasis on Electrical Technology.
  • To be responsible for the storage, stock control and maintenance of tools, materials and equipment.
  • To be trained to current legislation in the use of appropriate machinery and be confident in their use.
  • To ensure that all equipment is maintained in a safe working condition, making any repairs s/he is qualified to do, and reporting in writing to the Head of Department any defects or safety hazards and completing relevant service documentation.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Has a Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline or a willingness to achieve one.
  • Has Health & Safety qualification/ or relevant experience or willing to gain these
  • Has relevant industry/professional experience within the relevant sector.
  • Has knowledge of current developments in relevant vocational area.
  • Able to communicate effectively with students and peers.
