Job Description

Customs Administrator Up to £20/hr Ltd UmbrellaInside IR35Stafford12 month initial contractAn opportunity has arisen for a customs administrator at the Stafford Engine facility, part of the Large Power Systems Division for one of the worlds leading manufacturers of off-highway machinery and diesel and natural gas engines.This position is responsible for handling daily import and customs activity with freight forwarders to ensure parts and product flow across international borders in compliance with regulatory requirements.Key Responsibilities:Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring the facilitys imports are cleared compliantly, in-line with HMRC and Company requirements; using established processes whilst avoiding disruption to delivery schedules including:

  • Provide timely and accurate clearance instructions to Customs Brokers, ensuring strict UK guidelines and time constraints are met
  • Management of relevant import documents (checking for correctness / completeness and cross-checking sources of information), liaising with stakeholders to resolve queries / obtain any additional documentation / re-mediate discrepancies to prevent any errorsor oversights
  • Calculation of accruing customs duties, ensuring duty savings are obtained where appropriate
  • Produce accurate records, logs and files containing import documents that satisfy the scrutiny of HMRC and Company audits
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and maintain compliance metrics
  • Responsible for reporting non-compliant cases
  • Escalate relevant issues to Customs Compliance Supervisor
  • Co-ordination of classification requests
  • Continuous improvement contributions by identifying areas of improvement to optimise procedures
Skills, experience & qualifications
  • Be self-sufficient and self-disciplined
  • Great team player who works collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and enjoys working well within a small team.
  • Highly focused and accurate with a meticulous eye for detail
  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to use own initiative and apply a problem-solving mindset, able to prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines and achieve multiple priorities efficiently
  • Good written, verbal communication and administrative skills
  • Confident using Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel (able to demonstrate basic formulas, pivot tables, formatting, charts, etc) and able to resolve IT issues with Helpdesk support where appropriate
  • Finance administration background
  • Data accuracy
  • Ability to build inclusive relationships
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and solve problems
Desirable skills:
  • Experience of working with a large organisation and understanding the complexity this brings
  • Experience of working within an organisation that buy/sell large volumes worldwide
  • Understanding of incoterms
  • Previous experience of working within an imports/export role or working with CDS.
