Job Description

CHP are an award winning, people focused organisation based in Chelmsford, Essex, and we are hiring. We have been providing more homes for people unable to rent or buy privately since March 2002 and we aim to build a home a day - 365 new homes per year.We are looking for a Charge Hand on a 6 month Fixed Term Contract to assist the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader in delivering the service provided by CHP trades teams and contractors, ensuring CHPs land is maintained to a high standard to meet customer needs.There couldnt be a more exciting time to join CHP as we are currently experiencing three times the growth of the industry average.   • Carry out grounds maintenance works to CHP owned areas as directed by the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader.
  • Assist in improving the service delivered to CHP properties/communal areas by enhancing performance and driving down costs;
  • Support the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader with technical queries and resource management for the team and ensure work is carried out with due regard to Health and Safety;
  • Be a point of contact to assist the grounds maintenance team with technical queries and work issues where appropriate;
  • Provide a hands-on approach to the delivery of the service by being on the tools for a minimum of 50% of the working week to carry out delivery works;
  • Carry out inspections of works as directed by the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to ensure all work meets relevant quality standards;
  • Carry out inspections to trees and make recommendations for any works needed;
  • Liaise with customers and deal with enquiries as directed by the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader;
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery/processes;
  • Assist the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to ensure staff are equipped with the competencies required to achieve business priorities and manage their required outcomes;
  • Act as cover for the Grounds Maintenance Team Leader when required;
  • Undertake any other responsibilities relevant to this post, as directed by your line manager.

    • PERSON SPECIFICATIONEssentialQualifications
  • Evidence of attainment of good literacy and numeracy, e.g. through GCSEs or equivalent;
  • PA1 and PA6 qualification;
  • Competency certification in the use of horticultural machinery;
  • Full, clean driving licence.
    • Experience, knowledge and skills
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in grounds maintenance or related discipline;
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace;
  • Good knowledge of grounds maintenance, plant/shrub identification and arboriculture;
  • Ability to undertake general horticultural work such as shrub beds and hedge trimming;
  • Experience of operating grass cutting equipment and other horticultural machinery;
  • Physically fit and able to carry out the demands of the job and prepared to work in all weathers;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate teams and individuals.
  • Project management experience;
  • Experience of managing costs of works.
  • Experience in supervising operatives;
  • Good knowledge of IT systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Ability to manage own time and to respond effectively under pressure;
  • Must be a critical thinker and an active learner;
  • Able to prioritise work and competing demands to meet pre-defined targets.
