Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a School Staff Instructor (SSI) to join us in our pursuit of excellence! As an integral part of the CCF contingent here at the Mount the SSI is responsible for organising and delivering military and adventurous training to the two sections of the CCF, including all aspects of equipment care and logistical/resource support to the CCF in conjunction with the Contingent Commander. The SSI will also be responsible for the Duke of Edinburgh Award activities.Working Pattern:

  • 3 to 5 days per week to be agreed
  • Term time - 35 weeks

  • An opportunity to claim up to 51 paid days at the current MOD SSI rate and an annual grant from the MoD

  • The Role As SSI, you will be responsible for the operation of activities and safety in relation to all cadets and Officers. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Be responsible for the coordination and support of CCF Activities ensuring effective planning and safe delivery of training to the Cadets.
  • Plan and deliver military and adventurous instruction and training to CCF Staff and Cadets, including mandatory safety tests.
  • Assist both the military and adventurous training camps, military shooting ranges and Cadet Competitions.
  • Advise on Officer Training Courses and apply for training for officers.
  • Manage all Contingent MOD and Private accounts.
  • Be responsible for cadets’ reports.
  • Scrutinise the overall care and maintenance of MOD issued equipment with particular emphasis on the safe storage of arms and ammunition.
  • Scrutinise Health and Safety of all CCF activities including Risk Assessments, testing of staff in Pam 21/Pam 5C, insuring qualifications held are in date and current
  • Write risk assessments for all training activities and ensure reconnaissance of potential training areas country-wide.
  • Be responsible for the daily control of issue, receipt, maintenance, security and serviceability for arms, ammunition held in the Armoury secure facilities.
  • As the Assistant Unit Security Officer, the SSI is responsible for the security of weapons, ammunition and buildings.
  • Liaison with MoD Security Officer, the local police, the Security Alarm Monitoring Company, Alarm contractor and be on call for alarm response to attend site.
  • Prepare for, and be in attendance for all periodic inspections.
  • Arrange and assist with security vetting, including, being responsible for visiting officers’ papers and liaise with HR regarding required DBS checking.
  • Deliver the D of E award and coordinate the expeditions, along with other outdoor pursuits as required for any other extra-curricular events the school may seek to run.
  • You You will have experience working with young people or cadets in an educational or training environment, with strong knowledge of safeguarding protocols. You will also be Ex-Regular Forces Warrant Officer/ SNCO or Cadet Forces CFAV with relevant experience.You will have an exceptional communication skills in writing and orally, and be great at building rapport with others. You will be able to write reports and keep accurate records and thus need good computer skills so you can update the required databases. Experience risk assessing and training others is essential to the role of SSI. You will be enthusiastic and required to partake in outdoor pursuits and adventurous training such as mountain leadership, climbing, kayak instructor. Any experience of delivering D of E expeditions is also desirable.Although not essential, it is desirable if you have a wider knowledge of all 4 service arms, the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force.As part of the role you will be required to maintain your own professional development and undertake any training or updates required by the school or MoD, including being first aid qualified.The successful candidate will hold a Valid UK driving licence (D1) and ideally a current mini-bus/trailer licence (D1 +E).The School values diversity and strives to promote equality at all levels, including its employees, students.
