Job Description

HR Generalist / HR Business Partner / Human Resources / HR Advisor / HR Officer / Employee RelationsWe are looking for an experienced HR Generalist for a fixed term contract of 12 months, to cover maternity leave, with the possibility of this being extended or becoming permanent. You will join a team of 3 who work collaboratively with the School and allocated areas to ensure smooth running of all people related matters.Who are weMount St. Mary’s College is a special community with a proud history and a bright future, where staff and pupils work hard to achieve success and rewards. Nestled in beautiful and spacious grounds in the North East Derbyshire village of Spinkhill, Mount St Mary’s College is an independent Jesuit day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11-18. Barlborough Hall School is a co-educational independent day school and nursery for children aged 3 to 11, is located in the magnificent private grounds of Barlborough Park, the school is tucked away in the quiet village of Barlborough, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The staff are a community who are genuine in their commitment to the needs of the students and the School as a whole. The HR department works across both schools.The RoleThe HR Generalist enjoy a busy and varied role, where no day is the same. You will support and lead on numerous HR related activities such as, meeting managers in allocated areas on a weekly basis, using your HR expertise to provide guidance and support to help manage our brilliant teams. The team are currently implementing a HR system and so any prior experience of this will be advantageous. This also creates a great opportunity to be at the heart of a changing and forward thinking HR service to a School.Other duties will include active involvement and leading on:

  • Recruitment and selection
  • Induction and on-boarding
  • Performance development
  • Employee Relations matters
  • Policy changes and queries
  • Absence management
  • Terms and Condition queries and changes
  • Separation, including, resignations, retirements, dismissal
  • YouPrevious experience working in a busy HR team working across all the above aspects of HR is essential. Qualified to CIPD level 5 or above is required. Previous experience working with the education sector is highly desirable, but not essential.It is essential you have experience and knowledge of employment law and hands on experience advising managers at all levels of seniority on HR matters as well as being excellent at building relationships and rapport with others.You will be proactive in seeking resolutions for employee queries and tactful in your delivery of challenging messages when required, ensuring you follow best practice and the schools ethos.You will be good with IT systems, including Microsoft office 365, so you can confidently use Excel, Word, SharePoint, Outlook and HR systems.The School values diversity and strives to promote equality at all levels, including its employees and pupils.
