Job Description

Location: Up to 3 days per week at Southwater HQ, working remotely at other times.Travel required to other RSPCA premises and locations (Temporarily based from home due to Covid)Salary: CompetitiveHours: 35 hours per weekClosing date: 10am Friday 12th March 2021We are seeking a Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing to join our People & Culture team!Health, Safety & Wellbeing is fundamental to our People plan to support the whole organisation. Reporting into the Assistant Director Employee Experience, you’ll head up a team working permanently to provide strong Health, Safety and Wellbeing support to the Society.It’s a great time to join the RSPCA, in the decade of our bicentenary, and operating in a world that’s more complex and challenging than ever before, we’re determined to continue increasing our reach, impact, and effectiveness.What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and develop the RSPCA’s direction for effective health and safety management and appropriate workplace wellbeing programmes for staff, volunteers and other stakeholders
  • Review and develop all aspects of the RSPCA’s health, safety and wellbeing policies and activity, and ensure that it is implemented consistently across the organisation
  • Work proactively with managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of health, safety and wellbeing within their areas of responsibility
  • Manage the implementation of health and safety management systems, including ISO 45001, and other current standards and legislation
  • Work closely with People & Culture colleagues to develop an appropriate supporting workplace wellbeing programme
  • Oversee consistency of delivery of health and safety and identify and pursue significant issues
  • Oversee and undertake audits where appropriate and ensure an action plan with SMART objectives is established to address issues identified
  • You’ll have:
  • CMIOSH (minimum) NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (desirable)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of health, safety and risk management, current health and safety legislation, management and standards
  • Knowledge of workplace wellbeing initiatives and how they add value to an organisation
  • Experience in completing health and safety management audits against ISO 45001 and implementing action plan to meet audit findings
  • Recent proven experience of working in a health and safety role at a similar level and bringing about culture change within an organisation
  • Experience of implementing policy in health and safety management in a large, multi-sited and complex organisation
  • Fire risk assessment qualification (desirable)
