Job Description

Location: Headquarters, Southwater (temporarily based from home due to Covid-19)Salary: CompetitiveHours: 35 hoursClosing date: 10:00 Thursday 25th February 2021We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection Manager to join our Data Protection Team on a fixed term basis for 12 months maternity cover. The role involves access to and handling of highly sensitive and confidential information from external and internal sources and requires robust championing of data protection policy throughout the Society.This management position plays an integral role in relationship building; providing subject matter expertise in data privacy guidance to the entire business and supporting the Head of Data Protection to deliver the Data Protection strategy and governance.Working in Data Protection at the RSPCA enables you to have exposure to our unique working environment, diverse business areas and history.In the decade of our bicentenary, and operating in a world that’s more complex and challenging than ever before, the RSPCA are determined to continue increasing our reach, impact and effectiveness. Its our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion.The role will be based at our headquarters in Southwater but will be home based to start due to Covid-19.What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage the Data Protection team (DP Team) and co-ordinate the Team’s work/daily operations relating to Data Protection compliance, including responses to internal and external enquiries;
  • Ensure that the core activities and services of the Data Protection Team are carried out efficiently and effectively;
  • Work collaboratively with all areas of the business work with the aim that data protection protocols are embedded at all stages and in all the mediums where information is gathered or held;
  • Ensure adequate internal records are kept and maintained; and
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in the legal world on data protection issues and represent the Society on external bodies as required.
  • You’ll have:
  • Knowledge of data protection law and practices, in particular in relation to special category data;
  • An understanding of what is required to achieve data protection compliance and a broad appreciation of the practical application of data protection law;
  • An understanding of information technologies and data security;
  • An ability to summarise issues and documentation, and to juggle competing priorities and multitask; and
  • Excellent communication skills, including letter writing and ability to control a conversation, with a proven track record of managing people.
