Job Description

Transport Manager - WiganAs a Transport Manager you will work closely with the Transport team in a fast-paced and time critical transport operation to ensure the traffic operation runs smoothly, accurately and cost effectively. Its your role to ensure that the team on shift arewell organised, trained and motivated to deliver the operational efficiency targets.To act as the lead person in creating the correct environment for our colleagues and ensuring the department is fully compliant and that all operational processes are fully health and safety compliant, and people are led in the right way.Being a role model and be responsible for setting and maintaining standards. Leading a team of 1 Transport Shift Manager, Transport Admin support roles (day/evening shifts) and 21 drivers, delivering to predominately the north regions.You will be used to working with different characters and understand what motivates individuals to be the best that they can be by creating a fun, fair and rewarding culture. As our Transport Manager you will train, coach and mentor your team to drive thehighest standards.Key Activities & Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of all transport shift staff and drivers in regard to performance, culture and engagement
  • Ensuring the site compliance is up to date and legal records are up to date at all times including agency drivers through effective use of the IT system
  • Meeting the businesses expectations in regard to the timely despatches of the route vehicles
  • When and where route change requirements are needed, they are done in a way which is the most efficient or relevant to meeting the business needs
  • Completing systems required updating and ensuring the systems are being used correctly
  • Compiling and completing business required KPIs and management reporting tools
  • Empowering, developing and supporting the team to develop and grow through training and providing opportunities to own and take responsibility for specific tasks
  • Route planning to maximise efficiency and minimise transportation costs
  • Load planning and calculating weights of each consignment
  • Managing drivers daily activities in line with the Working Time Directive and Driving hours
  • Management of drivers, assigning workload, ensuring their work is carried out in a professional manner
  • Absence management and disciplinary actions including driver checks
  • Keeping customers informed of all failed deliveries or significant delays
  • Keeping the communication between drivers and customers
  • Taking responsibility for vehicle maintenance - booking MOTs, inspections, services etc. Liaising with maintenance service providers
  • Making sure all health and safety regulations are adhered to by the drivers
  • Submitting reports and transport updates to the site lead
  • Involvement with the recruitment of drivers
