Job Description

CK Group are recruiting for a vacuum coating lead technician on behalf of a rapidly growing developer of disruptive technology applications, to be based at their site in Seaham on a permanent basis.About the company:Our client is involved in development of new low-cost, lightweight electronic products which aim to disrupt the market, dramatically increasing the uptake of their novel products. They are entering a rapid period of expansion, following a recent move to new,state of the art facilities.About the role:You will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of a Vacuum coatings team, and assisting with the operation of vacuum deposition tools as required.Directly reporting to the Principle Process Engineer, you will coordinate the production and characterisation of thin films as planned for achieving internal targets and outputs, the testing and implementation of process development projects and general housekeepingof the deposition tool.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising the setting up, running, and maintaining thin film coating equipment (sputtering or e beam gun and thermal evaporation).
  • Performing routine mechanical and electronic adjustments and alignments to the equipment to ensure optimal performance and quality.
  • Understanding and following target specifications and tolerances for the thin film coatings.
  • Contributing to data collection and performing control tests and inspections on the thin film coated products (SPC data collection and characterisation).
  • Troubleshooting and resolving any issues or problems that may arise during the thin film coating process or operation (Out of Control Action Plans – OCAPs).
About you:To be considered for the position you should ideally have the following skills and expertise:
  • Experience working with thin film coating techniques, such as physical vapor deposition (PVD) or sputtering
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of technicians in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and to communicate effectively with different levels of personnel and customers in both written and verbal forms
  • You should have the flexibility to work a rotating pattern of early and late shifts (6-2 / 2-10)
