Job Description

We are looking for the Technical Supervisor to ensure the smooth running of the PET Laboratory to support the business in the timely and accurate production of analytical services and certificates. To manage the team of lab technicians to ensure constant cover and to ensure that all laboratory equipment is serviced annually and repaired in the event of defects.The Technical Supervisor has accountabilities which include:1.) Ensuring that the Seaham laboratory runs smoothly and produces accurate and timely results to support the business and to manage and oversee the team of 4 Laboratory Technicians2.) Conducting trial works as directed by the Laboratory, Regional QSHE (and other Senior) Manager for the purpose of improving product quality and customer satisfaction via analytical or process improvement and modification.3.) Ensuring that the laboratory functions are not interrupted due to lack of availability of materials, consumable and other resources, and that the equipment in use is serviced annually (at least, unless stipulated otherwise by the manufacturer) to ensure that it continues to produce valid results and complies with the requirements of relevant accreditations (ISO9001, LabCred).The role of Technical Supervisor requires the individual to be flexible in response to the business needs as priorities may change at short notice dependent on customer and process requirements.The position carries with it a requirement to evaluate and track data from the calibration and quality assurance processes and to ensure that the data is logged and signed off so that equipment failure can be predicted and preventive maintenance conducted to minimise downtime.The position reports to the Laboratory Manager but it is expected that the supervisor will have significant autonomy within the role and will be expected to independently manage the laboratory functions with minimal input. All management decisions and changes must be done with due consideration of quality, health, safety and environmental aspects that may impact staff, contractors, or the ability of the business to meet legislative obligationsRequirementsHeres what we require:

  • Technical experience of GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) and FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) to at least initial troubleshooting and repair/maintenance.
  • Experience in a QC laboratory
  • A recognised scientific qualification
  • Analysing and collating large sets of data for trends
  • Experience of polymer specific analytical equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of polymer processing equipment
  • Knowledge of recycling process equipment
  • Knowledge of plastics analytical equipment.
  • Display ‘Be Safe attitude and behaviours
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and on own initiative
  • Intermediate Microsoft package IT skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
