Job Description

BlairWest are partnering with Great Annual Savings Group with their search to appoint a Legal Counsel.Great Annual Savings Group works with organisations across the UK with cost-saving management solutions. The Group also consists of a charitable foundation - the GF Foundation, which aims to support thousands of families across the North East, and Spennymoor Town Football Club, acquired by the Group’s CEO & Founder, Brad Groves in 2009.This is a newly created opportunity, as sole in-house counsel working closely with the CEO & group leadership team. The Legal Counsel will implement the legal strategy, ensuring appropriate frameworks are in place enabling the business to continue its impressive growth trajectory.We envisage that this would suit an ambitious Solicitor, with a background in commercial law, looking to progress their career within a growing, entrepreneurial SME.The Role:

  • Draft, negotiate and review commercial agreements with customers and suppliers, and advising on the financial exposure and contractual risk for the Group.
  • Manage and guide in litigation (or dispute resolution) to ensure the most positive outcome for the Group.
  • Provide legal advice, using sound commercial acumen, in areas such as property, IT, data protection, employment, health and safety and framework, funding or partnership agreements.
  • Assisting human resources and operations with any legal disputes and litigation as required.
  • Work with the compliance function to strengthen existing policies (internal and external)
  • Support with banking, insurance and finance arrangements.
  • Leading on GDPR, ensuring full compliance and eliminating risk.
  • Identifying, assessing and managing commercial risk for the Group.
  • As the business evolves, potential to advise on a range of corporate finance projects, for example, M&A, JV or shared equity transactions.
  • Provide overall support and protection for the corporate governance of the Group.
  • Maintain accurate records and data for all commercial agreements and obligations.
  • To excel in this role, we believe you will need to:
  • Be a qualified solicitor, with at a minimum of 2-3 years PQE.
  • Have gained your qualification within a legal practice, ideally with exposure to an in-house role.
  • Have experience in commercial contract negotiation (preferably gained in-house).
  • Be confident to handle/manage litigation, when required.
  • Commercial acumen - able to balance legal risk with business objectives.
  • Be objective and impartial whilst at the same time pragmatic in your advice.
  • Operate at a cross-functional level to best support internal stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including capacity to manage expectations.
  • Able to manage workload, meet deadlines and respond well to a demanding environment.
  • Experience in a sales environment would be useful but not essential.
  • The ideal candidate will be:
  • An exceptionally strong character; professional but uncompromising.
  • An ability to balance conflicting priorities in a fast-moving sales environment.
  • An unshakable nature. A believer in their ideas, and strong enough to stand by them.
  • Able to talk to people, enabling trust and relationships to be developed.
  • Comfortable with complex scenarios, but with an ability to add commercial "nous" that mitigates risk for the Group.
  • Someone with a strong work ethic, but with a great sense of humour.
  • Self-motivated, inquisitive and willing to explore new ways to maximise opportunities.
  • A cultural fit for GAS; happy to work independently, but flexible to change in a company experiencing rapid growth.
