Job Description

Engagement Officer - ShellfishFirth of Forth (with hybrid working and travel around Fife, Edinburgh and East Lothian)The CompanyWe are the Marine Conservation Society, a UK charity fighting for a cleaner, better-protected, healthier ocean: one we can all enjoy.Right now, our ocean is at a tipping point. We’re polluting our waters and destroying precious habitats. Were harming the species that live there. This is reducing the oceans ability to help fight the climate crisis. While a third of UK seas are protectedon paper, less than 1% are well-managed. We are determined to change this.Using people-powered action and with science on our side, we defend habitats and species, working with communities, businesses and governments to encourage ocean-based climate action solutions across the UK.Our amazing partnership project, Restoration Forth, is working to restore native oyster reefs to the Firth of Forth area, working closely with local communities to enhance the coastal and marine environment of the Forth, support nature-based solutions to addressclimate change, and create opportunities for local people to reconnect with the sea.We’re now seeking an Engagement Officer to join us on a full-time basis for a 12 month fixed term contract.The Benefits- Salary of up to £27,500 per annum (pro rata)- Annual leave that starts at 25 days a year, plus Bank Holidays, increasing with service- 6% contribution to our stakeholder pension scheme- Sick pay at full-pay for 8 weeks, then 8 more weeks at half-pay- Great work life balance through flexible working- Support for your health and wellbeing with a programme of activities- Employee assistance programmeThis is an exceptional opportunity for an individual who is passionate about marine life and has volunteer-management experience to join our dedicated organisation.You will have a huge impact on our vital projects, ensuring the legacy of Restoration Forth and engaging communities with our work!What’s more, we’re offering a tempting variety of benefits, making sure you’re well taken care of in both your professional and personal life.So, if you’re ready to dive in, read on and apply!The RoleAs an Engagement Officer, you will promote the Restoration Forth project and our wider campaigns.Bringing the project to life, you will engage young people, adult learners, families, community groups, volunteers and local businesses.You will provide Citizen Science training and activities to local communities to inspire interest and confidence in projects for native oyster citizen science involvement - securing the project’s legacy!Additionally, you will:- Recruit, train, and help to co-ordinate a network of active volunteers- Research, develop, and create a network of engaged community members- Represent Marine Conservation Society and Restoration Forth at key eventsAbout YouTo be considered as an Engagement Officer, you will need:- Either relevant experience, or a degree in a marine or related environmental subject- Experience of effectively recruiting and supporting volunteers- Experience in engaging volunteers- Experience of organising and delivering events, including training- Experience in the development and production of key supporting materials- Knowledge of database and effective records management, including GDPR knowledge- Competency with Microsoft Office packages- A current First Aid certificate- A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicleThe closing date for this role is 17th November 2023.Other organisations may call this role Engagement Officer, Community Engagement Officer, Engagement Assistant, Charity Engagement Officer, Engagement Co-ordinator, or Environmental Engagement Officer.Webrecruit and Marine Conservation Society are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment.
