Job Description

Buyer - requiered for our client based in Welwyn Garden City The Buyer will be working for a well-known company within the construction and access industry and be given expert training and development working alongside the established growingteam.The Buyer will have some knowledge of procurement or experience within a similar role within the construction sector. The Buyer will be ensuring a close understanding and up-to-date knowledge of material and plant hire markets, products and suppliers. TheBuyer will be responsible for communicating between site supervisors and suppliers to ensure delivery of goods in a timely manner and within budget on each project. The Buyer will appraise suppliers, select suppliers from the approved suppliers list, issueenquiries and orders and liaise closely with various key stakeholders.Buyer Position Overview

  • Assist in the day to day operations of the Central Procurement department
  • Acquire quotes and negotiate prices for goods and services and support Estimators with
  • Procurement functions including procuring materials, conducting bids, supplier negotiation and processing orders.
  • Involvement in Business development identifying potential new supplier
  • Monitoring supply chain and upgrading suppliers to preferred status when necessary
  • Ensure savings, rebates and compliance are achieved in line with project strategy
  • Negotiating prices and terms with suppliers
  • Liaising with relevant departments for stock levels and supplies
  • Obtaining quotations from existing approved suppliers
  • Check shipments when they arrive to ensure that orders have been filled correctly and that goods meet specifications
  • Communicate regularly with management keeping them abreast with products, prices, deliveries
Buyer Position Requirements
  • Buying / Procurement experience within the construction industry
  • Experience with a procurement software / database
  • Understanding of building materials, their uses and how they are sold is desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • IT skills - MS Office, Excel, Outlook, Word etc
  • Ability to source products best suited for requirements and negotiating costs with suppliers
  • Ability to work both alone and as part of a team
