Job Description

Job Title: Housing Waiting List AdministratorHours: Mon-Fri, 37 hours.Purpose of the Job:The Housing Waiting List Administrator is a vital member of the Housing Advice and Benefits Team, responsible for efficiently managing applications for the Councils Housing Waiting List. This role involves providing tailored advice, ensuring compliancewith housing policies, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of housing support services.Housing Waiting List Administration:

  • Conduct interviews and offer personalized advice to individuals seeking housing support.
  • Assess eligibility for social and affordable housing in accordance with the Councils Housing Allocation Policy.
  • Assist clients in applying to join the housing waiting list, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Conduct investigations and assess applications under the guidelines of the Housing Act 1996.
  • Resolve application-related issues and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address housing allocation matters.
  • Support re-registration of applications and handle changes in circumstances.
Team Support:
  • Coordinate temporary accommodation requests from Homelessness and Prevention Officers.
  • Maintain records of clients in temporary accommodation and assist with moves.
  • Handle purchase orders, invoices, and rent accounts for temporary accommodation.
  • Ensure timely processing of outgoing and incoming post.
Service Delivery and Improvement:
  • Collaborate across the Housing Advice and Benefits Team and wider Communities and Homes Service.
  • Provide key-performance data for early identification of service delivery issues.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
  • Actively contribute to the future development of services.
External Relations:
  • Strengthen partnerships to enhance service publicity and quality.
  • Represent the Council at meetings with internal and external organizations.
  • Arrange and attend case conferences involving other agencies.
  • Represent the Council at Tribunals and Courts as required.
Development of Self and Others:
  • Stay up-to-date with legislation and best practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership in achieving team aims and objectives.
  • Identify and address personal development and training needs.
  • Actively engage in 1:1 Support and Supervision Meetings.
Customer Care:
  • Embed "CANDO" values and Equality and Diversity policies in service delivery.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Undertake any reasonable duties as requested by the manager, including one-off projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Coach less experienced team members.
Financial Responsibilities:
  • Ensure correct administration of the benefits system and financial assistance.
Responsibility for Assets and Data:
  • Responsible for team assets, including IT and office equipment, and safeguarding customer data.
Extent of Public Contact:
  • Interact with residents, various agencies, professionals, and internal stakeholders.
Working Conditions and Environment:
  • Office-based with occasional home visits and external travel.
  • Basic Disclosure and Barring Service check required.
Corporate Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Council rules, management requirements, and relevant policies.
  • Uphold the Councils values and challenge behavior misaligned with these values.
Systems:
  • CX Anite (information at work), addition to SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook, Word, etc.
Essential:
  • Working knowledge of Legislation.
  • Understanding of the legislation relevant to the Housing Waiting List, particularly Part VI of the Housing Act 1996.
  • Basic comprehension of the challenges faced by clients in inadequate accommodation or experiencing homelessness.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex issues clearly, in person or over the telephone.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Problem-solving skills and a solution-focused approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Understanding and ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Good understanding of confidentiality, safe practice, safeguarding, anti-discriminatory practice, and equal opportunity.
Educational Qualifications:
  • A good standard of education, enabling the creation of letters and basic arithmetic tasks.
