Borough Council Solicitor / Local Government Lawyer who is a qualified solicitor or barrister and has a current UK Practising Certificate with the ability to lead a small team, act as a Monitoring Officer and has previous post qualificationexperience working for a local authority is required for a Borough Council based in Ripley, Derbyshire.SALARY: £68,156 to £78,000 per annumBENEFITS: Flexible working, pension Scheme, free on-site parking, excellent personal and professional development opportunitiesLOCATION: Hybrid / Flexible Working / Office based in Ripley, DerbyshireJOB TYPE: Full-Time, PermanentJOB OVERVIEWWe have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Borough Council Solicitor / Local Government Lawyerwho is a qualified solicitor or barrister and has a current UK Practising Certificate with the ability to lead a small team, act as a Monitoring Officer andhas previous post qualification experience working for a local authority.Working as the Borough Council Solicitor / Local Government Lawyeryou will have 4 direct reports that will have the responsibility for ensuring the delivery of responsive, high quality and effective legal and democratic services to all parts of the Councilensuring that the Council, its officers, and its elected members, maintain the highest standards of conduct in all they do.As the Borough Council Solicitor / Local Government Lawyer you will be directly responsible for all matters relating to the Members Code of Conduct dealing specifically with Code of Conduct Complaints/investigations and supporting the Standards and AppealsCommittee. You will also attend Full Council and Cabinet as the Legal Advisor.An ability to identify legal implications for the Council and recommend appropriate courses of action will be essential, together with an ability to understand and assimilate complex information quickly and make reasoned decisions and provide advice accordingly.You will be expected to have a thorough understanding of local authority constitutional law, including the law and practice relating to Council meetings. Furthermore, you will require detailed knowledge of the law and practice in relation to the planningservice, elections, electoral registration, licensing and other key borough Council services.You will be required to establish effective working relationships with the Leader of the Council, members of the executive, political groups and all councillors to ensure effective governance of the Council and the probity and integrity of decision making.Political awareness and astuteness will therefore be essential.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Borough Council Solicitor / Local Government Lawyerwho is looking to take on the challenge of the role of Monitoring Officer and the responsibility of being the Councils Lead Legal Advisor.CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTSAs the Borough Council Solicitor / Local Government Lawyer you will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:
