Job Description

Role: Senior EstimatorLocation: PrestonRole Type: PermanentSalary: £60,000 - £70,000 per annum plus car or car allowanceYour new employer:A Principal Contractor who have specialised in delivering vital infrastructure projects for more than 25 years and can demonstrate a wide-ranging portfolio of specialist works including bridge construction, highway infrastructure, education infrastructureand major industrial plants.Your new role:A great opportunity has arisen for an Estimator/Senior Estimator to work with the pre-construction team in securing civil engineering projects with values of up to £20m and perform a fundamental role with a range of responsibilities, such as preparation,submission and cost estimates, programmes and quality responses for tenders.Your further duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Analyse and interpret information, including early appraisal of scheme requirements in terms of construction methods, programme and management
  • Identify potential risks/opportunities
  • Call upon support from Design/Delivery team as appropriate to plan works delivery strategy
  • Identify key win themes and manage bid, coordinating input from multiple contributors.
  • Identify additional information required to inform and benefit the tender
  • Identify possible alternative construction methods, technologies and products
  • Price civil engineering activities such as earthworks, drainage and paving from 1st principles, building up labour, plant and material cost components
  • Prepare programme/construction sequence, to establish constructions periods
  • Identify subcontract packages, choose suppliers from database, liaise with supply chain, prepare and issue enquiries and analyse and interrogate responses
  • Compile a comprehensive net cost estimate for the works, including preliminary items
  • Present net cost estimate at internal adjudication
  • Timely submission of tender, ensuring that the Clients requirements and specifications are met in full
  • Follow up submitted tenders
  • Give others an overview of the scheme, highlighting any job specific risks/benefits
  • Contribute to discussion on commercial approach
  • Review post-contract performance of tendered schemes
Skills and experience required:You will currently be working in civil engineering as an Estimator/Senior Estimator and will have the experience to produce and deliver winning tenders. You will be highly driven and focused and be able to work with limited supervision. Your knowledge ofcivil construction techniques and processes will be tested. Ideally you will be degree educated or hold an NVQ 4 or equivalent and be confident estimating from 1st principles.
