An opportunity has arisen for a Systems Administrator in the DBA team within the Information Resources and Computer Services team, based at Plymouth. The team is responsible for a portfolio of key infrastructure components such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Cassandra databases and Web Tier interfaces to support in-house and 3rdparty applications.Employees will be required to complete aBasic DBS check which shows any unspent convictions and conditional cautions as well as security vetting. Main ResponsibilitiesIn this role you will be involved in the support, maintenance and implementation of IR’s databases to include Oracle, MySQL, Cassandra and Microsoft SQL Server. In addition you will support the WebLogic infrastructure and interactions between business systems. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with practical experience and be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills in database administration and web tier support. The Ideal CandidateFamiliarity with WPD’s existing infrastructure and database deployments, support models, licensing, security and the wide variety of traditional and modern technologies in use would be advantageous.You also need to demonstrate a forward thinking attitude in considering the use of new technologies, tools and working practices in order to support modernisation and digitalisation initiatives.Knowledge, or experience, of working with Ansible, Git, backup and recovery technologies (RMAN/TDP), Oracle Databases, Oracle WebLogic, SQL Server, scripting and automation via Kubernetes, Python, PowerShell and WLST.Experience in any of the above key skills or being able to demonstrate this through a related discipline, such as database based programming, system administration on Windows, Linux or UNIX based platforms would be advantageous. An appreciation of Cybersecurity, its associated tools and technologies would be of benefit.
