An opportunity has arisen for a Systems Administrator in the DBA team within the Information Rescourcesand Computer Services team, based at Plymouth. In return, their development is supported and they’re encouraged and enabled to maintain their evolving knowledge in line with innovation Main ResponsibilitiesIn this role you will be involved in the support, maintenance and implementation of IR’s databases to include Oracle, MySQL, Cassandra and Microsoft SQL Server. In addition you will support the WebLogic infrastructure and interactions between business systems. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with practical experience and be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills in database administration and web tier support. The Ideal CandidateFamiliarity with WPD’s existing infrastructure and database deployments, support models, licensing, security and the wide variety of traditional and modern technologies in use would be advantageous.You also need to demonstrate a forward thinking attitude in considering the use of new technologies, tools and working practices in order to support modernisation and digitalisation initiatives.Knowledge, or experience, of working with Ansible, Git, backup and recovery technologies (RMAN/TDP), Oracle Databases, Oracle WebLogic, SQL Server, scripting and automation via Kubernetes, Python, PowerShell and WLST.Experience in any of the above key skills or being able to demonstrate this through a related discipline, such as database based programming, system administration on Windows, Linux or UNIX based platforms would be advantageous. An appreciation of Cybersecurity, its associated tools and technologies would be of benefit. Strong analytical, diagnostic and system management skills are a must.Appropriate training and development will be given in order to assist the successful applicant to realise their full potential.You will also be expected to provide support to others in the provision of an Out of Hours Standby rota to cover critical 24/7 systemsThe successful candidate may initially be appointed on a lower salary until all of the full duties of the role are undertaken.Please note:
